Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS UB7-S GT-2160™

0

ASICS and Kiko Kostadinov are teaming up again for Autumn/Winter 24 with some exciting new sneaker drops! They’ve got two fresh models coming out this fall, and they’re taking their collaboration to the next level.

This new collection builds on the awesome design language we’ve seen so far, with a focus on new materials and colours. The inspiration comes from handcraft techniques like pottery, which you’ll see in the matte finishes and washed colour effects. They’ve drawn from Mino ceramics from Japan to create a cool, rust-like look that’s both unique and durable.

The theme for this drop is ‘Functional Utopia.’ The sneakers feature grid patterns and bold, opaque colours, with double-layered mesh and metallic accents that blend science and nature in a really striking way.

The Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS UB7-S GT-2160™ has a sleek, streamlined design that brings back the vibe of the GT-2000 series from the 2010s. It comes with the signature segmented midsole and GEL™ technology for great cushioning and support. On the other hand, the UB9-S GEL-KAYANO 20™ is all about advanced tech with ASICS FLUIDFIT™, giving it a cool ‘halo’ effect and top-notch responsiveness. Plus, the Guidance TRUSSTIC technology adds extra stability and comfort.

You can grab the Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS UB7-S GT-2160 now on ASICS.com for $220 AUD. Stay tuned for the other models, which will be rolling out throughout the Autumn/Winter 24 season! To stay up to date, make sure you sign up to our newsletter. For other ASICS features, click here.

Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GEL-QUANTUM 360 VIII

0

We’re super excited to share that Cecilie Bahnsen is teaming up with ASICS Sportstyle for her third collaboration. This new release is a major milestone—it’s the first-ever women’s version of the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360 VIII, and Cecilie has totally reimagined it as a sandal.

Every detail of this sneaker has been carefully thought out. It’s built on the GEL-Quantum 360 VIII tooling, which is known for its standout technology. Using Division Space technology, it makes the most of the space between the GEL and the midsole for extra comfort. The sandal has a cool upper with two velcro straps and a floral touch, a nod to Cecilie’s previous GT-2160 collab. The upper features techy, two-tone mesh and 5D print overlays, and the outsole has a semi-transparent rubber piece with a custom floral print underneath.

For the campaign, Cecilie worked with artist and photographer Casper Sejersen and the creative studio MOON. They’ve captured the sneaker on Danish gymnast Frida Lund, styled in Cecilie’s FW24 collection, performing on the bars. The shoot beautifully combines power with delicacy and strength with femininity.

Cecilie Bahnsen said, “We wanted to do something pretty literal with this campaign. I wanted to see the shoes in action, especially on a sportswoman. This is our third time working with ASICS, and I wear our collab shoes almost every day—walking around Copenhagen, traveling, you name it. But seeing them in action was something else. Working with Frida Lund and Casper Sejersen was incredible. Watching Frida on the bars was breath-taking. Our dresses have never looked more at home, dancing in the air.”

The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS Gel-Quantum 360 VIII campaign and sneaker was revealed during Paris Fashion Week at ASICS’ movement-inspired pop-up. Cecilie’s space featured Casper Sejersen’s photos and the sneakers displayed in a cool industrial setup on steel tables, creating a striking contrast to Cecilie’s feminine style.

The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS Gel-Quantum 360 VIII will be available from 20th September at ASICS.com for $330 AUD. To stay up to date, make sure you sign up to our newsletter. For other ASICS features, click here.

Adidas AE1 Low Ascent Pack MX Grey

0

Today, we’re reviewing the Adidas AE1 Lows in the Ascent Pack MX Grey colorway. The most obvious difference between the mids and lows is the missing mid-collar support. The lows also ditched the extra fabric and lace holes on the toe box, opting for a more traditional setup. You’ll also notice the exposed full-length Light Boost midsole on the soles. Both versions feature reflective 3M on the toe box and the exposed carbon fiber heel counter. Despite sharing the same colorway name though, the lows have a lighter marbling.

Performance-wise, the lows deliver the same responsive snapback energy return with the X-shaped TPU shank plate, and the full-length light boost midsole offers excellent cushioning. The large herringbone traction remains grippy even on dusty courts, though I wouldn’t recommend them outdoors due to the thin rubber compound. Also, the wide base ensures stability and smooth heel-to-toe transitions.

They perform similarly to the mids but feel lighter and lower to the ground. My legs felt fresher after a few runs in the lows. However, containment is a concern. Many hoopers reported heel slippage I suspect due to the lack of mid-collar support, and I found this to be true. Double-knotting the rope laces though fixed the issue for me.

I love both the look and feel of the mids and lows. Adidas Basketball nailed it with Anthony Edwards’ first signature shoe—one of the best-designed in recent memory.

They fit true to size but run narrow, so wide footers should go half a size up. They retail for $170 AUD. Though they’ve sold out, new colorways are on the way. Keep an eye on the Adidas and Footlocker websites, or check out resale markets while prices are still reasonable.

It’s More Than Just Sneakers Singapore 2024 Recap

0

We’re excited to share that our first ‘It’s More Than Just Sneakers’ (IMTJS) event hit Singapore! The debut IMTJS event in the Lion City went down on August 24th and was all about an intimate gathering with some awesome local vendors showing off their stuff.

Hosted by the cool streetwear and sneaker spot ABSNC, the event kicked off at 3 PM. It was the first time guests got to dive into what an IMTJS event is all about. They checked out streetwear from brands like Supreme and Dr Denim at the ABSNC store. The new TKS x Cosmonauts collab tee dropped at the event, and if you weren’t early, you missed out—the whole limited release sold out within the first hour! Cosmonauts also rolled out their new line of tees and hoodies, which were a big hit with everyone.

Local artists Jeremy Tanavit and Ebao were also there showing off their latest work. Jeremy’s JEM toy range, including the new ‘Fanta Red’ colourway, was up for grabs. Ebao, who’s teamed up with TKS before, brought his urban art to the table with his new clothing line, floor mats, and coasters. If you haven’t checked out their work, definitely take a look at their socials.

There were also some cool collectibles on display and for sale. Ben from Sneakers Clinic brought his Pokémon card collection, including some rare finds. He even had a friends-and-family exclusive Verdy x Nike SB Dunk Low “Vick” on display—it was awesome to see (and hold) it in person.

And of course, no IMTJS event would be complete without some killer sneakers. Angelo from 2 Hide and Sneak had a pair of Off-White x Jordan 1 Chicago on his table. Seeing those in the wild was pretty rare, so it was cool to check them out at a reasonable price.

The IMTJS raffle was a hit, with tons of prizes from generous sponsors. As always, the more tickets you bought, the better your chances of winning.

If you’ve been to IMTJS events before, you know they’re all about bringing together a community that’s passionate about the culture. No matter where the event is (Australia, Auckland, Singapore), it’s always great to catch up with people, make new friends, and maybe even pick up something you’ve been eyeing.

Singapore was a blast, and we definitely want to come back. Huge thanks to all the sponsors (listed below) who supported the event, and a big shoutout to Jarritos SG for keeping us refreshed, Cosmonauts for helping with the setup, and our awesome host, ABSNC.

Converse x Isabel Marant

0

Converse and Isabel Marant join forces for the first time to launch a capsule collection. This line blends new and classic Converse styles with Isabel Marant’s signature Parisian cool aesthetic.

Consequently, known for her mix of high and low fashion, Isabel Marant values spontaneity, independence, and elegance. She embraces unpredictability and breaking the mold—qualities that align with Converse’s spirit.

Together, these brands have long influenced style and culture. Featuring Marant’s innovative design, the collection introduces the Chuck 70 Wedge and a fresh take on the iconic Chuck 70. Their collaboration celebrates “Effortless Luxury” with a nostalgic twist.

Furthermore, Isabel Marant is the perfect partner to debut the Chuck 70 Wedge, which follows Converse’s De Luxe Wedge. The silhouette, with a hidden 2.5-inch wedge heel, nods to Marant’s role in the sneaker wedge trend of the 2010s.

In addition, the collection also includes her interpretations of the Chuck 70 hi-top and Chuck 70 Ox low-top. These designs feature a frayed cotton and polyester Jacquard upper, Marant’s logo, multi-colored pinstripes, and a translucent outsole.

The Converse x Isabel Marant collection launched on September 11, 2024, at Isabel Marant Turenne Paris pop-up, and online at IsabelMarant.com and stores. The initial colorways include Vanilla White and Raven.

Also, this collaboration marks the start of Converse’s new heel offerings, with the Chuck Taylor All Star Wedge and Chuck 70 Wedge. Both will now be available in black, white, and egret on CONVERSE.COM and select retailers.

Converse x Nike SB x Alexis Sablone

0

Converse and Nike SB teamed up with Alexis Sablone. The Converse CONS team rider and former Olympian, created a limited-edition skateboarding footwear pack featuring the Converse AS-1 Pro and Nike SB Dunk Low.

Furthermore, Sablone also designed skateboarding kits for the United States, Japan, and a Federation Agnostic version, which influenced the AS-1 Pro and Dunk Low designs.

In addition, She drew inspiration from chameleons, whose ability to transform reflects the evolving nature of skateboarding and its diverse community. The chameleon’s vibrant color patterns appear on the footwear through tear-away, reptilian-textured uppers with color-changing leather and chameleon camo liners.

As a result, Sablone’s AS-1 Pro features a wear-away leather upper over a white base with Fuchsia Glow accents. The Nike SB Dunk Low mirrors the chameleon theme with earth-toned patterns. It also has a Swoosh resembling a chameleon’s tongue.

Lastly, Her initials, “A S,” are embossed on the heel. The Converse AS-1 Pro and Nike SB Dunk Low were released in a limited-edition twin pack on August 22 via SNKRS, with the AS-1 Pro also available at converse.com.au and select skate stores.

WADE ALL CITY 12 ENCORE ‘AVOCADO’

0

Today, we introduce the Wade All City 12 Encore in the sleek ‘Avocado’ colorway! Right off the bat, its modern design impresses. Looking more like a lifestyle sneaker than a traditional basketball shoe. The upper combines leather, textile mesh, and welded TPUs. Ensuring a premium look and feel. Breathability shines through large honeycomb vents on both sides of the shoe, while the Gille-style lace loops and an oversized heel cup, featuring the Way of Wade logo, ensures excellent containment.

The exposed full-length BOOM midsole delivers a responsive, shock-absorbing ride, making it a reliable choice for game-day comfort. However, the standout feature is the wide base GCU Rubber Compound, developed by Li-Ning and the Way of Wade Brand.

GCU is short for Ground Control Unit. It is the breakthrough rubber compound developed by Way of Wade that delivers an all-weather, anti-slip and wear resistant performance and is now available in their latest best value ball kicks. Let’s check it out!

Despite the thin traction pattern, inspired by the WOW logo and lightning bolts, this shoe offers some of the best traction we’ve tested in a basketball shoe this year. The rubber compound grips both indoor and outdoor courts superbly and according to Way of Wade is built to last.

At just $149 USD, the Wade All City 12 Encore packs exceptional performance technology, making it one of the best value basketball shoes we’ve reviewed in 2024! While the shoe runs true to size, wide-footers should consider going half a size up due to the narrow midsection. They’re now available at wayofwade.com.

ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 Collaboration with P. Andrade

0

ASICS is launching its latest collaboration in the sportstyle segment with P. Andrade, a Brazilian contemporary design brand known for its unique and innovative approach to fashion. The collaboration introduces a new version of the iconic GEL-KAYANO 14, inspired by the Lamprocyphus Augustus, a small beetle native to the Amazon rainforest.

With over 30 years of history, the GEL-KAYANO™ is celebrated for its legacy of stability and comfort. First developed in 1993 by designer Toshikazu Kayano. Moreover, the silhouette named after its creator drew inspiration from beetle shells. Featuring a robust exoskeletal structure, a double-density midsole, and an innovative Mono-Tongue System. Since its debut, the GEL-KAYANO™ has continuously evolved, incorporating new technologies and innovations in each edition. Also, solidifying its status as one of ASICS’ flagship shoes and attracting attention through partnerships like the one with P. Andrade.

Founded by fashion designers Pedro Andrade and Paula Kim, P. Andrade stands out for its contemporary luxury with a strong focus on innovation. According to Pedro Andrade, blending P. Andrade’s design DNA with ASICS’ aesthetic was a natural process.

“When we had the opportunity to work with the GEL-KAYANO 14, incorporating our style into the model came easily. Its contemporary and sophisticated look, with subtle nuances, aligns perfectly with what we do at P. Andrade,” he says.

Meanwhile, the idea to use the beetle as a central theme emerged during research on Brazilian wildlife, focusing on fauna, flora, and biomes.

“The beetle was an unexpected discovery. Scientists believe it may contain the ideal photonic crystal needed to manipulate visible light, a crucial material for ultra-fast optical computers—something that doesn’t exist yet because the right crystal hasn’t been manufactured,” Andrade adds.

Furthermore, the beetle also inspired a unique connection between its metallic colors and the shoe’s design. Featuring shades of purple and green, the new color-changing GEL-KAYANO 14 reflects the beauty and uniqueness of Brazil’s natural environment. The shoe’s development took about a year and a half, with design consolidation taking place in Japan.

“It was a long and detailed process. We went through around 30 versions before arriving at the final one, which showcases subtle gradients and metallic hues inspired by the beetle’s shell,” notes Paula Kim.

In addition, the collaboration includes a clothing line inspired by the beetle’s anatomy. The designs incorporate contours that mimic the shape of the beetle’s legs, with all fabrics imported from Japan. The collection, consisting of t-shirts, two pairs of pants, and one jacket, blends casual style with sportswear, offering details and stories connected to the central theme.

ASICS’ marketing director, Constanza Novillo, emphasizes the significance of the collaboration: “Collaborations are essential for ASICS as they allow us to explore new perspectives and bring innovative elements into our products. The partnership with P. Andrade demonstrates our ongoing commitment to staying connected with our audience by offering relevant stories and groundbreaking products.”

Overall, The collaboration aims to inspire consumers to see beauty in often-overlooked aspects of nature.

“We want to showcase beauty through unconventional sources, especially in small creatures that play a fundamental role in regenerating our planet. This collection invites people to look at nature’s little wonders with greater attention and care,” concludes Andrade.

Lastly, the new ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 will retail for $280 AUD and is now available online at ASICS.COM and select retailers.

361º FLAME 3 ‘MIRO’

0

Introducing the 361º Flame 3.0 in the MIRO colorway. A super lightweight shoe designed for training, running, and marathons. Weighing in at just 228 grams in a size 9 US, this shoe features the latest technology from the 361º laboratory.

The upper is constructed from durable, fully breathable S!LK Tech carbon fiber mesh, which provides excellent airflow to keep your feet fresh throughout your sessions. Reinforced welded TPU strips on the toe guard, lace holes, and the silver 361º logo ensure secure foot containment, while the edge serrated lockdown laces enhance fit. To avoid any distractions, I recommend lacing all the way up for additional heel lock, especially since the laces run long.

The only padding is memory foam in the ankle collar, providing both lockdown and comfort. Cushioning primarily comes from the steep 3D-printed QU!K FLAME CQT, a super lightweight yet responsive shock-absorbent foam. The midsoles are designed to offer a smooth, natural heel-to-toe transition for both walking and running. Torsional stability and energy return are provided by the robust Qu!kBONE DYNAM!C carbon-fiber shank plate. For traction, the shoe utilizes RBU, a very grippy and durable rubber compound effective on most surfaces despite its thinness.

Full disclosure: I’m not a full-time runner or marathoner, but I do run regularly to supplement my other sports. The 361º Flame 3 meets all my needs for a proper training and running shoe. Overall, thanks to its lightweight and supportive nature, I’m able to squeeze out a few extra kilometers and minutes in my training.

Retailing at $255 AUD, these shoes offer excellent value compared to other running-specialized shoes in their category. Now available HERE.

They run true to size, though wide footers should consider going up half a size.
