The Suicide Squad Official Trailer

OK DC Fans, time to get excited about another movie getting ready to drop this year. Now, i know what you’re all thinking? Is The Suicide Squad a reboot or a sequel to the 2016 film? To answer that question, no its not a reboot. It’s still working off the same continuity that was established in Suicide Squad but it’s “rebooting” the franchise to hopefully better set it up for success.

Peter Safran a DCEU producer said that Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is a “total reboot” and “not really a sequel” to the 2016 film. This plays into the upcoming film’s title as it’s not “Suicide Squad 2” or anything that references the initial film’s existence. It seems like DC is trying its best to distance itself from David Ayer’s underwhelming film.

So what is The Suicide Squad actually about? Well the official synopsis from Warner Bros. is as follows:

Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.

So what do we think of the trailer? Will James Gunn’s version redeem the eyes of DC fans? Or will this be simply a DC Comics version of Guardian’s of the Galaxy? Let us know what you think

The Suicide Squad is due to hit cinemas on August 6th 2021 along with streaming on HBO Max in the US on the same day
