Anna Sawai Fronts ASICS SportStyle’s Sensory Bloom Collection

0

ASICS SportStyle has announced Anna Sawai as its newest global ambassador, with the award winning actress fronting the brand’s Autumn Winter 2026 Sensory Bloom Collection. Celebrating movement, creativity and individuality, the collection continues ASICS‘ strong momentum in lifestyle releases while introducing fresh takes on archival silhouettes and a brand new model inspired by the brand’s heritage.

Best known for her recent award winning performances and growing list of Hollywood credits, Sawai brings a unique perspective to the campaign. Fluent in both English and Japanese, she represents the kind of global influence that ASICS has increasingly embraced in recent years. The campaign itself leans into her background as an actor, dancer and yoga practitioner, featuring a playful cinematic short where Sawai and her stunt double engage in a series of on set duels. It’s a light hearted approach that captures the energy of the collection without taking itself too seriously.

At the centre of the Sensory Bloom Collection is the return of the GEL CUMULUS 16, one of ASICS‘ most underrated silhouettes from the mid 2010s. Originally released in 2014, the model has been reworked with glossy overlays, translucent mesh and marble inspired finishes that give the sneaker a contemporary edge. Underfoot, dual GEL technology, FLYTEFOAM cushioning and FLUIDRIDE tooling ensure the comfort remains as impressive as ever.

Joining the GEL CUMULUS 16 is the debut of the HYPERSYNC, one of the latest silhouette inspired by ASICS‘ archives. Taking cues from the brand’s wrestling and track and field heritage, the HYPERSYNC combines a streamlined profile with textured patent leather, decorative stitching and breathable mesh. The result is a sleek lifestyle model that feels equally at home on the street as it does in a fashion forward wardrobe.

While celebrity partnerships have become commonplace in the sneaker world, this one feels particularly authentic. ASICS has long championed its philosophy of “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”, and Anna Sawai’s emphasis on movement aligns seamlessly with the brand’s DNA.

The Sensory Bloom Collection is available now via ASICS, with the GEL CUMULUS 16 and HYPERSYNC leading one of the brand’s most compelling lifestyle drops of the year.

StreetX x Reebok Aussie 96 Collection

When it comes to telling uniquely Australian stories through streetwear, StreetX rarely misses. Their latest collaboration with Reebok is no exception, delivering a collection that goes far beyond sneakers and apparel. The StreetX x Reebok Aussie 96 Collection is a tribute to a generation of football fans who grew up before streaming, social media and instant highlights changed the game forever.

Inspired by the golden era of the mid-’90s, the collection captures the excitement of staying up late to watch football on SBS, waiting days to find out overseas results, and hoping a family member travelling abroad would return home with an authentic European football jersey. It celebrates a time when football wasn’t driven by hype, it was driven by passion.

At the heart of the collaboration is the Sidewinder 96, a brand-new silhouette that blends classic football boot DNA with modern streetwear styling. From the quilted synthetic leather toe box to the gradient underlays and extended lacing system, every detail has been carefully considered. Even the longer lace setup pays homage to junior footballers wrapping their laces underneath their boots before stepping onto the pitch for weekend matches. It’s those subtle details that make this collaboration feel authentic rather than simply nostalgic.

The footwear is backed by a complete apparel collection that perfectly complements the sneaker. The Sidewinder Jacket, Sidewinder Trackpants and Training Jersey all borrow design cues directly from the shoe, incorporating gradient panelling, embroidered collaborative branding, football-inspired construction and premium finishing touches that tie the entire collection together.

What makes this collaboration stand out is the story behind it. Instead of chasing another retro football aesthetic, StreetX has tapped into the memories that shaped an entire generation of Australian football fans. It’s a reminder of when watching the world’s game required patience, dedication and genuine love for the sport. Long before notifications, livestreams and viral moments, these were the experiences that connected fans to football.

The StreetX x Reebok Aussie 96 Collection releases Sunday at 5:00PM AWST and will be available through the StreetX online store. International customers can also purchase from the same website by selecting their country using the location selector at the bottom of the page.

If you’re a football fan, a sneaker collector or simply appreciate collaborations with genuine storytelling, this is easily one of Reebok’s strongest releases of the year. Rather than relying on nostalgia alone, StreetX has created a collection that feels personal, authentic and unmistakably Australian, a collaboration that reminds us why football will always be known as the world’s game.

PandaShuen x Chaigo the Stray Bring Back GamDouDuck

0

Malaysian creative duo PandaShuen and Chaigo the Stray recently unveiled the latest chapter of their collaborative designer toy series, introducing a striking new black and white GamDouDuck (咁都 DUCK) during SuperToy Fest 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

Held at GMBB from July 3 to 5, SuperToy Fest 2026 brought together more than 80 artists from Malaysia and around the world, providing the perfect stage for the duo to debut the newest colourway of the highly sought after sofubi figure.

The latest PandaShuen x Chaigo the Stray edition features a clean monochrome finish, complemented by a vibrant red string and classic yellow bell around its neck. Minimal in colour but rich in personality, the new release proves that simplicity can make just as much of a statement. With only 45 pieces produced, it instantly became one of the event’s standout collectibles.

For PandaShuen founder and creative director Nikki Ng, GamDouDuck has always represented more than just another designer toy.

“I didn’t set out to make this serious. Somewhere along the way, I started to believe pure fun can be the purpose. A duck is only ‘supposed’ to be yellow, but that kind of thinking boxes in the child in us. We can be anything, as long as we’re willing to want it.”

That philosophy continues to define the project, encouraging creativity, individuality and the freedom to challenge expectations through art and design.

The release also marked the second collaboration between PandaShuen and Chaigo the Stray. Following the success of their first GamDouDuck collaboration in 2025, the partnership has continued to evolve, including appearances at Automechanika Kuala Lumpur, further cementing the pair as exciting names within Malaysia’s growing art toy scene.

Created by renowned Malaysian graffiti artist Kenji Chai, Chaigo the Stray has grown from a street art character into one of the country’s most recognisable creative IPs, spanning murals, designer toys, apparel and collaborations while embodying resilience, freedom and carving your own path.

Meanwhile, PandaShuen, founded by Nikki Ng, continues to bridge art, fashion, automotive culture and travel through thoughtfully crafted collaborations that celebrate creativity, sustainability and everyday joy.

As designer toys continue to gain momentum across Asia and beyond, releases like GamDouDuck highlight the strength of Malaysia’s creative community. With its limited production run and distinctive aesthetic, the latest colourway was undoubtedly one of the highlights of SuperToy Fest 2026 and another reminder that some of the region’s most exciting collaborations continue to come from passionate independent creators.

Collectors who missed out on the PandaShuen x Chaigo the Stray GamDouDuck at SuperToy Fest 2026 can still check availability at pingpandashuen.com. Worldwide shipping is available while stocks last. The limited edition sofubi is priced at USD $99.

Converse 1908 Pro Leather x Tyler, The Creator

0

The Converse 1908 collection continues to evolve, and its latest chapter delivers one of the boldest reinterpretations yet. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the Converse 1908 Pro Leather, created in collaboration with Tyler, The Creator. This fresh release transforms one of basketball’s most iconic sneakers into a modern lifestyle statement while staying true to its rich heritage.

Originally introduced in 1976, the Pro Leather changed the game. It raised the standard for basketball footwear and quickly earned a place beyond the hardwood. Over the years, it became a staple in streetwear and fashion culture. Now, the Converse 1908 Pro Leather builds on that legacy with a bold, future-focused design. Inspired by b-boy culture and the creativity of bootleg customisers who reshaped classic silhouettes by hand.

At first glance, the proportions immediately stand out. Converse and Tyler intentionally exaggerated the design to create a sneaker with unmistakable presence. The wider toe box, oversized eyelet rows, chunky laces, and embossed Star detail across the toe cap give the shoe a confident and contemporary stance. As a result, the silhouette feels both familiar and completely new.

Meanwhile, the premium full-grain leather upper reinforces the elevated construction. Classic Pro Leather elements, including the signature heel panel, perforated detailing, and iconic Star Chevron logo, preserve the sneaker’s unmistakable DNA. In addition, subtle GOLF le FLEUR* branding appears on the tongue and lateral side. Seamlessly connecting the design to Tyler’s unmistakable creative vision.

The Converse 1908 Pro Leather launches in two versatile colourways: White and Amazon. Both highlight the model’s oversized proportions while offering distinct personalities. Whether you’re drawn to the clean simplicity of White or the richer, earth-inspired Amazon colourway, each pair showcases the perfect blend of Converse heritage and Tyler’s forward-thinking design language.

Retailing for $200 AUD at Converse, 1908 Pro Leather is more than just another collaboration. Instead, it represents the next evolution of a basketball classic, combining archival details with contemporary styling to create a sneaker that’s ready for today’s streets while honouring nearly five decades of history.

Review: ASICS GEL-STRATUS MC

ASICS has once again dipped into its archives to breathe new life into a classic silhouette. Today we’re checking out the brand-new ASICS GEL-STRATUS MC in the eye-catching ‘Lime Zest/Pure Silver’ colourway. This release is part of a two-shoe launch, with the second option arriving in the Concrete/Carbon colourway.

Priced at $180 AUD, the GEL-STRATUS MC is available now through ASICS Australia. As for sizing, I found it fits true to size with an average width and a comfortably roomy toe box.

There are three things I absolutely love about this sneaker.

First, the design beautifully blends two iconic ASICS runners from the early 2000s. The upper pays homage to the original GEL-STRATUS 4 and faithfully recreates its signature combination of breathable mesh, synthetic leather, and TPU overlays. Meanwhile, the vibrant Lime Zest mesh instantly grabs your attention. Better yet, the Pure Silver ASICS Tiger Stripes create a bold contrast that makes the entire upper stand out.

Secondly, the lockdown is surprisingly impressive. Hidden beneath the Tiger Stripes are four finger-like TPU support arms that connect directly to the grey lacing system. As you tighten the laces, these supports wrap around your foot to deliver a secure, comfortable fit without feeling restrictive. As a result, the shoe feels stable whether you’re walking around the city or wearing it all day.

Finally, the cushioning completes the package. The midsole borrows its DNA from the GEL-JOG MC, bringing proven comfort into this modern hybrid. Inside the heel, ASICS’ Rearfoot GEL technology absorbs impact exceptionally well, providing soft landings and lasting comfort throughout the day.

Overall, ASICS has once again proven that its archives are full of timeless designs. By combining the upper of the GEL-STRATUS 4 with the cushioning platform of the GEL-JOG MC, the brand has created a lifestyle sneaker that feels both nostalgic and fresh. If you’re a fan of retro runners with modern comfort, the GEL-STRATUS MC deserves a spot on your radar.

As for me, I’ll definitely be wearing these a lot.

ASICS and EMPTY BEHAVIOR HYPERSYNC™

0

ASICS SportStyle continues to push the boundaries of sneaker design through its latest collaboration with Chinese fashion label EMPTY BEHAVIOR. Following their previous partnership, the duo returns with the all-new HYPERSYNC™, a low-profile silhouette that blurs the lines between sport, fashion and artistic expression.

Launching on July 2, the collaboration introduces the concept of Powerette”, a theme built around the balance of strength and grace. Drawing inspiration from the contrasting worlds of classical ballet and wrestling, the HYPERSYNC™ transforms athletic influences into a fashion-forward lifestyle sneaker that feels equally at home on the street as it does in a gallery.

At first glance, the HYPERSYNC™ stands apart from traditional ASICS SportStyle offerings. Inspired by vintage wrestling shoes, the silhouette features a streamlined, close-to-the-ground profile that has become increasingly popular as low-profile sneakers continue to dominate the market. EMPTY BEHAVIOR then layers in details borrowed from classical dance, creating a unique visual language that celebrates movement in all its forms.

The collaboration’s standout details are found throughout the upper. Pleated ASICS side stripes reference flowing dance skirts, while the tongue incorporates shirring and satin finishes reminiscent of ballet footwear. These softer materials contrast against the shoe’s wrestling-inspired structure, creating a thoughtful balance between performance heritage and contemporary fashion. An integrated elastic tongue construction also delivers an improved fit while maintaining the clean, minimalist aesthetic.

Available in both White/Silver and Black/Pink, each colourway highlights the collection’s central theme through the use of light and shadow. The contrasting palettes reinforce the interplay between power and elegance, allowing the design details to shine while offering two distinctly different looks.

The campaign, photographed on the streets of Paris by fashion photographer Daniel Roché, reinforces the collection’s creative direction. Rather than focusing purely on performance, the imagery captures movement, individuality and youthful self-expression qualities that continue to shape the evolution of ASICS SportStyle collaborations.

As sneaker culture increasingly embraces fashion-led storytelling, collaborations like the HYPERSYNC™ demonstrate how performance brands can reinterpret their heritage through unexpected creative partnerships. By combining archival sporting influences with the elegance of classical dance, ASICS and EMPTY BEHAVIOR have delivered one of the brand’s more distinctive low-profile releases of the year.

The ASICS SportStyle x EMPTY BEHAVIOR HYPERSYNC™ launches on July 2 through select ASICS SportStyle retailers and online, with a retail price of $200.

ASICS Unveils the Retro-Inspired GEL-STRATUS™ MC

0

The retro runner movement shows no signs of slowing down, and ASICS SportStyle is proving once again why it’s one of the brands leading the charge. Now available, the GEL-STRATUS™ MC blends archival performance DNA with modern lifestyle appeal, delivering a silhouette that feels perfectly at home in today’s sneaker landscape.

Taking inspiration from the early-2010s GEL-STRATUS™ 4, the GEL-STRATUS™ MC revives an era where technical running shoes were designed with function first. Fast forward to today, and those same design principles have become a defining aesthetic within streetwear, making the GEL-STRATUS™ MC a timely addition to the growing wave of performance-inspired lifestyle sneakers.

At first glance, the shoe embraces everything fans have come to expect from the Y2K and retro-running resurgence. Layered synthetic leather overlays sit atop breathable air mesh underlays, creating the kind of depth and texture that’s become synonymous with modern runner-inspired footwear. Rather than simply recreating an archive model, ASICS has combined details from multiple heritage performance silhouettes, resulting in a sneaker that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

Of course, ASICS has always built its reputation on comfort, and the GEL-STRATUS™ MC is no exception. Borrowing its midsole tooling from the GEL-JOG™ MC running shoe, it features the brand’s trusted rearfoot GEL® cushioning technology to absorb impact and deliver all-day comfort. Whether you’re navigating the daily commute, spending a weekend exploring the city or simply looking for an everyday sneaker that won’t sacrifice comfort for style, the GEL-STRATUS™ MC delivers on both fronts.

What makes this release particularly appealing is its versatility. The technical runner aesthetic continues to dominate sneaker rotations, but not everyone wants an overly aggressive performance look. The GEL-STRATUS™ MC strikes a balanced middle ground, pairing effortlessly with relaxed denim, cargos, tailored trousers or shorts while maintaining the unmistakable ASICS design language sneaker enthusiasts have grown to appreciate.

As retro runners continue to evolve from niche trend to everyday staple, ASICS is once again demonstrating its ability to honour its performance heritage while creating footwear that resonates with today’s consumers. The GEL-STRATUS™ MC isn’t simply another archive-inspired release—it’s a reminder that some of the best lifestyle sneakers are born from genuine running innovation.

If you’ve been searching for a versatile everyday sneaker that combines technical heritage with contemporary styling, the GEL-STRATUS™ MC is well worth checking out. With its balance of comfort, understated design and authentic running roots, it’s another strong addition to ASICS SportStyle’s ever-growing lineup of lifestyle favourites.

The ASICS Sportstyle GEL-STRATUS™ 4 is now available at select retailers and from ASICS.com.au, with a retail price of $180.
