Jordan 1 Retro Low OG ‘Chicago’ 2025

0

The retro we’ve been waiting for—without the forced vintage look.

The Jordan 1 Retro Low OG ‘Chicago’ 2025 is finally here, and this time it delivers a clean, authentic throwback. No pre-aged midsoles. No artificial yellowing. Just crisp white leather panels, slick toebox and a pristine finish that stays true to the OG DNA.

Despite a slower year for sneakers—especially Jordan 1s—this release still sold out instantly. That alone says a lot. Even better, resale prices remain far more reasonable compared to the wild numbers the 2016 version once commanded. Big win for true collectors.

One major upgrade stands out immediately: real leather is back. While overall build quality remains typical mass-produced Jordan Brand fare, the leather choice is a clear step up from the 2016 release. My pair did arrive with minor paint marks on the toe box, but nothing a quick shoe wipe couldn’t fix.

Out of the box, you get black laces installed, plus extra white laces for versatility. The oversized OG Swoosh makes a welcome return, adding that classic Chicago edge. Even better, the Jordan Wings logo on the heel is now debossed, not printed—another subtle but meaningful upgrade over recent Jordan 1 Low releases.

Most importantly, this pair avoids the overdone “vintage” trend entirely. Clean midsoles. Bright whites. Pure retro energy. With so many archive-heavy Nike and Jordan drops this year, the Jordan 1 Low OG Chicago (2025) was a definite must-cop for me.

Does it crack my Top 10 pickups of 2025? I’m still deciding.

If you secured a pair, let me know—where does it rank in your 2025 pickups?

AFEW and Mizuno return with a collaboration that feels less like a sneaker release and more like a transmission from another dimension. Introducing the MXR OAG3, a limited-edition silhouette said to be discovered on the distant planet OAG3 by a mysterious figure known only as The Collector.

Whether fact or fiction, one thing’s real: this pair goes way beyond the usual.

That’s incredible value for a sneaker built for speedy guards who love to fast break, sprint the floor, and defend aggressively.

The All City 13 Encore features the advanced Polymer Core Drive System. Which places a powerful propulsion plate between two layers of exposed 100% BOOM foam. This setup delivers a dense, responsive, and explosive underfoot feel. Perfect for rapid push-offs without the sinking sensation you get from softer foams. Additionally, the PROBAR LOC in the outsole ensures multi-directional stability and dependable support on hard cuts.

For lockdown, the ultra-breathable SOLID System upper uses a blend of mesh, synthetics, and TPU strips. Meanwhile, the seatbelt-style internal lacinghalf-gusset tongue, and internal heel counter provide a locked-in fit that keeps your foot secure during every play. The outsole uses TUFF RB rubber. Which lasts 2.5 times longer than standard rubber—making this pair ideal for outdoor hoopers.

With extended outriggers and a TPU shield supporting the medial side, the All City 13 Encore also helps reduce the risk of ankle rolls. They fit true to size, but wide-footers should go up half a size for the best comfort.

Review: Up There x New Balance 991 v2 MiUK

0

From the cinematic mini-teaser films shared across social media—building weeks of anticipation—to the immersive activation set inside an old apple shed in Harcourt North, every move created hype the right way. Ultimately, the beautifully designed Up There x New Balance 991 v2 MiUK collaboration sealed the deal. This 15-year project became a masterclass in how to release a sneaker properly.

The $420 AUD retail price might have suggested these would sit, especially under today’s economic conditions. However, the community proved otherwise. Sneakerheads showed up with their wallets and their feet, and the pair sold out instantly. This reaction highlights the power of a well-executed marketing and branding campaign.

Up There Store avoided loud colors and instead delivered a black-based instant classic. The upper features a premium mix of bovine full-grain leather and spacer mesh. Yet the true standout is the carbon-fiber-like mid panel, crafted from Helcor 3D Carbon leather—an unmistakable callback to one of my NB grails, the early 2000 NB 577 Carbon Fiber Pack.

Reflective hits dress the toe box, side panels, tongue, and heel. Meanwhile, thoughtful nods to Melbourne’s own Up There Store appear throughout: the upside-down “Made in England” stitching in Up There green on the tongue, the +61 Australian area code on the heel, and the “V2” stitching on the lace stay and heel tab. Even the insoles come in signature Up There green with black New Balance branding.

The package includes flat grey laces out of the box, plus two extra pairs—flat black and flat black with reflective dots. All lace tips come finished in Up There green. The midsole sticks to the classic 991 v2 look with a white forefoot and cream heel, complemented by a clean opaque heel clip. Cushioning relies on ABZORB SBS pods and FuelCell foam, while the outsole sports a gum rubber finish with an exposed FuelCell guidance line in—you guessed it—Up There green.

Aside from minor stitching inconsistencies, the materials and build quality are exceptional. As usual with Made in UK 991 v2 pairs, they run about half a size big. Wide-footers will love the room, but if you prefer a snug fit, go half a size down.

Lastly, congratulations to the Melbourne institution Up There Store for delivering an unforgettable release. Brands should definitely be taking notes. This pair easily lands in my top 10 sneaker pickups of 2025.

0

Throwback Store has been holding down the basketball and sneaker scene in Australia since 2011, and now they’ve stepped things up in a major way. Michael Lazarus and the Throwback Store family have opened a brand-new headquarters, which is not just a bigger location. It’s a full experiential hub built for the culture and pushing legacy every step of the way.

The moment Michael walked in, he knew the space was special. What he didn’t expect was the twist: this was the exact venue where he celebrated his 10th birthday. He didn’t realise until he stepped inside and the memories came flooding back. That kind of full-circle moment doesn’t happen by accident, it’s meant to be.

Front and centre inside the new HQ is something no other store in Australia can flex: a fully restored 1990s-era basketball court once owned by NBA legend Luke Longley. Even the original rings from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games are here. It’s a piece of Aussie hoops history revived, respected and ready for the next generation.

The launch carried real significance, beginning with a Welcome to Country by prominent Indigenous Australian actor, host, and MC, Luke Carroll, That set the tone for a space that honours both community and culture. The event drew a serious crowd, NRL players Cody Walker & Paul Alamoti, ex-NBA legend and Aussie basketball legend Steve Carfino were all in attendance.

The HQ goes beyond retail. Future plans for the new HQ include a café, a curated Jordan Zone celebrating Throwback’s long-standing partnership with Nike, and dedicated spaces built for events and activations. Every corner is crafted, built for pushing legacy and community. It’s designed to move with the culture and give back to the people who keep it alive.

Support also came from brand partners. Including Hahn, Clean Collective, Li-Ning, NBA 2K and Resin Crew helping set the tone for this next era.

Converse SHAI 001 WINTER RED – Release Date, Story & Performance Breakdown

0

Every SHAI 001 colorway tells its own story. WINTER RED begins in Hamilton, Ontario. A city defined by long, cold winters and an unshakable sense of resilience. This palette draws inspiration from the winterberry. One of the rare plants that continues to show vibrant color through the harshest months. Its quiet toughness mirrors the steady, focused mindset that has shaped Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s rise to superstardom. WINTER RED stands as a bold nod to that journey.

Transitioning into the design, WINTER RED speaks in confident, powerful tones. Sharp green hits along the zipper create striking contrast. Shai’s signature logo on the tongue and insole adds a personal touch.

Furthermore, Converse’s iconic Star Chevron sits proudly on the heel. The upper’s University Red hue echoes the winterberry’s vivid color. A subtle symbol of confidence and control. It’s the composed drive that continues to define Shai’s path on and off the court.

Finally, performance takes center stage as always with the SHAI 001. A radial traction pattern provides multidirectional grip. The forefoot Zoom Air delivers responsive energy return, and an over-lasted midsole ensures low, connected stability. The WINTER RED colorway is engineered to move exactly the way Shai does: consistent, precise, and effortlessly shifting.

You can shop the Converse SHAI 001 WINTER RED globally on December 11, 2025, at Converse.com and select retailers.

Subtype Black Friday Pickup New Balance 991 v2 ‘Silver/Birch’

0

I finally picked up my first New Balance 991 v2—and I grabbed it from Subtype Store Melbourne! just dropped yesterday, and thanks to the extra Black Friday 20% off, I managed to secure a Made in UK pair for a much friendlier price. Since these premium models usually cost more than your average GR, that discount made a huge difference. If you’re hunting for this pair, head over to Subtype in-store or online before sizes disappear.

Today I’m checking out the New Balance 991 v2 “Silver/Birch”, my first pair in this upgraded silhouette. Not gonna lie—the color palette instantly gave me Travis Scott Jordan 1 Olive vibes. However, the craftsmanship here is on another level. The upper features an olive-toned breathable mesh complemented by creamy birch pigskin suede panels. And look, I love my synthetic Y2K runners, but nothing beats the premium feel and on-foot comfort of pigskin suede.

The sleek Euro-style toebox absolutely sold me. Meanwhile, the 3M hits on the “N” logo and heel tab add a striking reflective pop. Pair that with the subtle black heel bar and neon yellow outsole, and you’ve got a neutral but straight-up neck-breaking sneaker.

The biggest technical upgrade is the introduction of full-length FuelCell cushioning. This improvement blends perfectly with the familiar ABZORB SBS pods and ENCAP setup, creating a cushioned, responsive, and stylish ride. Honestly, I’m extremely happy with my first 991 v2—this colorway is incredibly versatile. My only nitpick? That creamy birch suede will definitely attract dirt, so wear with care.

Retailing at $330 AUD, the New Balance 991 v2 “Silver/Birch” is available now and part of Subtype’s 20% off Black Friday sale. And even if this pair isn’t your vibe, swing by Subtype anyway—they’re loaded with amazing sneakers and brands you’ll definitely want to check out.
