Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 20

Cecilie Bahnsen unveils the sixth chapter in her ongoing collaboration with ASICS: the GEL-KAYANO 20. First seen on the runway at her Autumn/Winter 2025 Paris show, this edition merges high fashion with technical performance—where form meets function and femininity meets the future.

Reimagining Bahnsen’s signature Mary Jane silhouette, the design draws inspiration from a 2005 marathon tabi shoe, discovered during a visit to the ASICS archive in Kobe. The result: a sculptural hybrid with asymmetrical lacing, D-ring hardware, and a unique half-tongue construction. “It’s a new take—more sculptural, more contrast,” says Bahnsen. “I immediately envisioned our floral details as lace locks.”

A standout detail is the 3D floral ‘cage’—delicate yet bold—interwoven with ASICS stripes, reflective accents, and layered textures. Negative space is used intentionally, allowing light and movement to breathe through the design.

Available in olive and vanilla/pure silver, each pair plays with contrast: sheer mesh, metallic prints, linen-like bases, and glossy floral overlays—all sitting atop the original GEL-KAYANO 20 sole with ASICS GEL™ tech and a Trusstic system for support.

Shot on the streets of Paris, the campaign features contortionist Heejin Diamond, capturing the poetic tension between strength and softness—mirroring the shoes themselves.

The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 20 will launch globally on May 16th, available at ASICS.com and select retailers. To stay up to date, make sure you sign up to our newsletter. For other SNEAKER features, click here.

Converse Chuck 70 Formal Low ‘Black’

The Converse Chuck 70 Formal Leather Low Top in ‘black’ is a sleek, modern twist on a timeless classic. Crafted with a premium black leather upper, this pair blends heritage style with contemporary edge.

Signature Chuck 70 elements like the rubber toe cap, foxing tape, and shiny midsole give it that iconic look. The tongue features light padding and a unique houndstooth canvas liner for added detail. Black cotton laces provide reliable lockdown.

The standout feature? A bold, chunky lugged sole that adds serious attitude while maintaining the traditional Chuck 70 traction pattern. At the heel, you’ll spot the classic rubber Converse license plate.

Worried about comfort? Don’t be. The insole features CX foam, while the footbed uses React foam for extra cushioning. Plus, an internal shank plate offers excellent torsional support.

In terms of sizing, these run large due to minimal inner padding. For the best fit, go one size down.

Overall, the Converse design team nailed it. They’ve transformed an iconic silhouette into a street-ready loafer that’s hard to ignore. This pair is sure to turn heads wherever you go.

Even better? It’s versatile. You can easily dress it up or keep it casual, making it a perfect addition to any wardrobe.

Reebok Engine A

Reebok Returns to the Court with the Engine A — A Bold Fusion of Innovation and Heritage

Reebok is officially back in the basketball sneaker game. They’re making a powerful statement with their first performance model in over a decade: the Reebok Engine A. Dropping in a striking Black/Silver/White colour way, this release blends cutting-edge technology with unmistakable throwback flair—and it’s already generating serious buzz.

At the heart of the Engine A lies its standout feature: an upgraded ERS (Energy Return System) cushioning platform. Departing from the original TPU tube design. Reebok now incorporates nitrogen-infused SuperFloat foam, delivering a more responsive, shock-absorbing ride. This advanced foam sits within a lightweight EVA midsole. Strategically placed in the forefoot and heel for optimal energy return where players need it most.

Visually, the Engine A sets itself apart. The exposed red ERS elements visible through the sole and four lateral heel holes create a futuristic, tech-forward aesthetic. Beneath the surface, a bottom-loaded TPU plate enhances torsional support and provides explosive snap-back. Meanwhile, the translucent rubber outsole—featuring a unique taco-shaped traction pattern blended with solid rubber zones—offers elite grip on the hardwood.

Up top, the design draws inspiration from Reebok’s legendary Möbius line. A breathable mesh exoskeleton and metallic silver TPU overlays combine lightweight structure with dynamic support. Ensuring the shoe performs as well as it looks. Classic Reebok and ERS branding throughout the silhouette ties the whole design together with bold, nostalgic energy.

As a seasoned sneaker collector, I’m genuinely impressed. The Reebok Engine A delivers high-level performance while paying tribute to Reebok’s basketball legacy. The silver-heavy colorway adds even more visual punch. While it dominates on indoor courts, I don’t recommend it for outdoor play—the translucent outsole may wear down faster on rougher surfaces.

Fit-wise, the Engine A runs true to size. However, for hoopers looking for a more locked-in feel, I suggest using a runner’s knot at the top of the lacing system.

In short, the Engine A is a triumphant comeback for Reebok Basketball—combining heritage, innovation, and style into one sleek, high-performance silhouette.

Available now at Reebok.com.au for $200 AUD, with potential discounts at select trusted sports retailers. Sign up to our newsletter for the latest updates and exclusive drops. Looking for previous Sneakers features? Click here.

Fresh from the new Under Armour design team, the new Under Armour Echo in ‘white/black’ delivers serious performance and undeniable street appeal. Built for the next generation of athletes and streetwear lovers alike, this pair blends innovation with everyday style.

To begin with, the multi-layered monofilament mesh upper brings structure and breathability, while an asymmetrical speed-lace system with a bungee cord locks you in—fast. Step into comfort thanks to UA’s HOVR cushioning, engineered for maximum energy return and long-lasting wear.

Moreover, the UA Slip Speed heel tech takes it next level. The collapsible neoprene heel transforms it from training mode to chill recovery mode in seconds—versatility at its best.

Also, I love the UA logo integrated into the welded structure on the toebox. It flows perfectly into the mesh upper and adds a sleek, modern finish.

Converse One Star 95

0

Originally built for the hardwood in the 70s, the CONVERSE One Star 95 made a name for itself in the 90s—dominating skate spots and concert stages alike. Fast forward to today, it’s back. And better.

This retro legend stays true to its roots, but gets some serious upgrades. First off, a thicker midsole and higher foxing tape give it that chunky, vintage vibe. It also has a gusseted tongue, for a more secure fit or if and when you decide to wear your laces loose.  A thin but plush leather collar for a more comfortable feel on the ankles. Paired with plush premium green suede, the upper feels just as good as it looks.

Slide in and you’ll feel the difference—thanks to a CX Foam and neonprene insole setup. It’s noticeably comfier, whether you’re skating or just flexing on the daily.

Styling-wise? It’s a no-brainer. The CONVERSE One Star 95 balances old-school edge with everyday wearability. Perfect daily beaters with real attitude.

Fit-wise, they run a bit big for me—I’d recommend going half to a full size down for the best fit.

Now available at converse.com.au, alongside some clean basic colourways like red, yellow and black. They Retail for a $160 AUD. Sign up to our newsletter for the latest updates and exclusive drops. Looking for previous Converse features? Click here.
