Phase 5…here we go! The kick off Phase 5 in 2023, we now have the first look at the new Ant-Man & The Wasp movie. This is going to be a big one, this will set the tone for Phase 5 & 6 moving forward.
Marvel Studios has FINALLY released the trailer for Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumaina overnight. After showing the trailer at San Diego Comic-Con, D23 Investor Day & New York Comic-Con, the public can finally get a glimpse into the next phase of the MCU
The biggest thing to take out of this trailer is the new big bad of the MCU, Kang The Conqueror. Played by Jonathan Majors, we finally have the first look at the next ultimate villain. However, this isnt the first time we have met him in the MCU.
We first met the “variant” of Kang in Loki (which aired on Disney+) in the season finale as “He Who Remains”. While it wasnt Kang himself, Majors did mutter the line “If you think im evil, wait till you meet my variants”. Well, we are about to meet the baddest one of them all.
The footage showcased Kang in the Quantum Realm, complete with his comic accurate green and purple color scheme. Kang is also seemingly pulling the strings within the Quantum Realm’s city, which could end up being the MCU’s version of Chronopolis, a time-spanning city-state that Kang rules over in the comics. Before the title card hits, Kang poses a chilling question to Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang.
“I can get you home, and give you more time, if you help me. So, what’s it going to be, Ant-Man?” Kang asks.
If you blinked in the 2nd Ant-Man movie, you might have missed it, we might have had a good at Chronopolis already:
Most notably, Chronopolis is powered by an engine called the “Heart of Forever.” This engine gave Chronopolis the power to exist in every single branch of the timeline simultaneously, which consequently gave Kang the ability to tap into past events at will. In one brief trailer frame, Kang’s hand can be seen placing a brightly-lit sphere into a capsule, which could be interpreted as the conqueror recharging the film’s iteration of the Heart of Forever.
Either way, this movie is gunna be epic. Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania hits cinemas on Feb 16th 2023.
