Samsung Unpacked Wrap-Up

0

What a day it is for the Android users. As one myself, it was good to see what Samsung had in store for its next generation of smartphones. And boy did they deliver. Samsung, this morning, unveiled 4 new Galaxy phones in its 10th year.

We have the Galaxy S10E, Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and the Galaxy S10 5G.

The Galaxy S10E starts as the baseline model for the new Galaxy lineup. It has a 5.8-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen that’s flat rather than curved, but sports an otherwise similar design, complete with a punch-hole selfie camera. There are two rather than three cameras on the back though, namely a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide one and a 12MP variable aperture one – so it lacks the 12MP telephoto lens of its siblings. The Samsung Galaxy S10e also comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, a 3,100mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner that’s on the side rather than in the screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung’s newest flagship has a lot of impressive specs, from its 6.1-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED curved screen, to its triple-lens rear camera, made up of a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, a 12MP f/2.4 telephoto lens and a 12MP lens that can switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures. The Galaxy S10 also has a refreshed design, with a punch-hole in the screen for the 10MP front-facing camera. The world’s first ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is also built into the display, so bezels are kept to a minimum. The Galaxy S10 is powerful too of course, with a top-end chipset, 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, while a 3,400mAh battery keeps it running.

Alongside the Galaxy S10, Samsung has also announced the larger Galaxy S10 Plus. This has a curved 6.4-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen, but the screen size isn’t the only difference. This phone also has a second camera on the front, with an 8MP snapper joining the 10MP one. Its battery is a lot bigger too, coming in at 4,100mAh, and you can get it with up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The need to add in a second front-facing camera has led to a slightly different design, with more of a pill shaped cut-out in the screen, but otherwise the Galaxy S10 Plus has the same look and specs as the standard model.

This is the most premium of the Samsung Galaxy S10 models and, as you’ve probably guessed from the name, it supports 5G. That aside, other highlights of the Galaxy S10 5G include an enormous 6.7-inch screen, a 4,500mAh battery and four rear cameras, consisting of the same three as the main S10 range. On top of that there’s also a 3D depth-sensing camera, useful for augmented and virtual reality, as well as facial recognition.

Probably the biggest talking point to come out of this event was the Samsung Galaxy Fold. It kicked off the show and it’s likely to be the biggest takeaway most people had coming out of the event. Samsung’s folding smartphone is here, and it’s a beauty. Samsung’s foldable smartphone uses an innovative new hinge system to open and close like a book, seamlessly switching between the outer 4.6-inch screen and the inner 7.3-inch tablet-like screen.

But though the folding tech is impressive, the Galaxy Fold dazzles inside, too. It comes with an unnamed 7nm processor, an astounding 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of onboard storage. Two batteries mean a battery capacity of 4,380mAh, and you can be sure the huge screen will be a huge power draw. That huge display can be put to good use and you’ll be able to use three apps in the split-screen mode for the first time. There are three camera lenses on the back, joined by two on the front, and another single lens on the cover, too — making six lenses. The Samsung Galaxy Fold will come in LTE and 5G versions and it will launch on April 26.

Bata Heritage partners with Coca-Cola for new capsule collection

0

Bata Heritage joins forces with Coca-Cola for their upcoming Spring/Summer 2019 collection, putting a fresh new spin on their legendary Bata Tennis and Hotshot styles.

Bata was founded in 1894 by Tomas Bata in the village of Zlin, what is now known as the Czech Republic. From the outset, Bata has placed considerable responsibility on themselves to ensure that they provide shoes that fulfill the needs of their communities. Over a century later, Bata still holds strong – boasting a diverse community all across the globe.

In celebration of its rich history, Bata Heritage launched in 2014 to showcase a vast archive of shoes that made a real impact to many customers. Fast forward to 2019, Bata Tennis and Hotshot bring their own stories to tell to a new generation of customers.

The reincarnation utilizes Coca-Cola’s distinctive and recognizable red and white hues throughout its designs, whilst drawing from their fundamental ethos of authenticity, community, and trust. With this, the new collection blends together staple silhouettes with contemporary materials alongside Coca-Cola’s illustrious logo, achieving a variety of fun looks that can easily integrate into your everyday look.

The Bata Tennis

The Bata Tennis shoe was first manufactured in 1936 in India for children to wear during their PE lessons. Since then, it continues to be Bata’s best-selling shoe.

For the SS19 collection, five new designs have been integrated into the classic shoe’s lineup.

Each shoes shares the same original Bata Tennis silhouette – a simple canvas body with minimal stitching as well as a white toe cap and sturdy sole. Designs for the shoe strongly utilizes Coca-Cola’s iconic logo and distinctive colour palette, ringing true to their commitment to authenticity.

The spelt-out logo can be seen used in a variety of sizes and patterns on the spectrum of new designs, from coloured dots on the front to smaller repeated stamping near the laces to one large print on the outer body. A strong focus is placed on the striking contrast made between the piping, lacing and canvas body.

The Hotshot

First introduced in 1972 as a basketball shoe, the Hotshot gained traction after Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain was spotted wearing them on numerous occasions.

The newly revised Hotshot style will come in three variations.

The first iteration of the style comes with Coca-Cola’s iconic red piped around the shoe. A similar version showcases Coca-Cola’s tagline ‘It’s the real thing’ embossed in black on the side of the sole. Additionally, the third version is characterized by its light grey jersey material. This nicely contrasts with the white toe cap, sole and laces. The red piping and text add a nice splash of colour, leaving plenty of room for the shoe to make its own statement.

Next, the second style embraces a fun pattern that’s repeated all over the canvas body. Coca-Cola is shown spelt out in red in a variety of languages against a white canvas background, illustrating their diverse communities.

Finally, the third rendition features white Coca-Cola bottle caps against a red backdrop – the boldest variation within the Hotshot collection.

The Bata Heritage and Coca-Cola SS19 collection will be available online from the 15th of March 2019 on www.bataheritage.com.

NBA All-Star 2019 Weekend Recap

0

Now that the dust has settled from the NBA All Star weekend, we at The Kickz Stand would take this time to recap from the intense weekend.

The weekend kicked off with the All Star Celebrity Game which saw the Home Celebrity take the win 82-80. The star-studded show was stolen by Famous Los, the viral comedian whose basketball videos are popular within and beyond NBA circles. He scored 22 points with three assists to lead the Home team over the Visiting team 82-80 and, of course, won the loyal crowd at Bojangles’ Coliseum. Famous Los was named the MVP for the Celebrity Game.

Next up we saw the NBA Rising Stars game with Team USA taking on Team World. Team USA snapped a 2 year losing streak to beat Team World 161-144.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma took home the MVP honors with 35 points for Team USA’s squad of first- and second-year players. With All-Star Kyrie Irving pacing the sidelines as honorary coach, Team USA led for the majority of the game and outscored Team World in fastbreak points, 48-26.

Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons led the way for Team World with 28 points on 14-for-17 shooting and six assists. Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic added 13 points and nine assists in front of his teammate and All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, who served as honorary coach for Team World.

Next up we head over to the NBA “State Farm All-Star Saturday Night” which holds the Skills Challenge, 3-Point Shootout & the Slam Dunk Contest.

The Skills Challenge saw 8 of the hottest players run through a course to see who would hold the hottest skills. Round 1 saw Nikola Jokic (Nuggets) beat Nikola Vucevic (Magic), Jayson Tatum (Celtics) beat Mike Conley (Grizzlies), Trae Young (Hawks) beat De’Aaron Fox (Kings) & Luka Doncic (Mavericks) beat Kyle Kuzma (Lakers). The semi finals saw Tatum take out Jokic to setup a showdown with Trae Young who took out Doncic. Tatum ended up beating Young with an incredible half court shot to win it in style. See video below of how it all unfolded

Next up saw the 3-point shootout with 10 of the games best 3 point shooters going head to head. In this challenge we saw the reigning 3-point champion Devin Booker (Suns) take on Seth Curry (Trail Blazers), Stephen Curry (Warriors), Danny Green (Raptors), Joe Harris (Nets), Buddy Hield (Kings), Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers), Khris Middleton (Bucks), Dirk Nowitzki (Mavericks) & Kemba Walker (Hornets). The Top 3 would then fight it out in the final round. The Top 3 shooters from Round 1 were Stephen Curry (27), Buddy Hield (26) & Joe Harris (25) move onto the final.

The finals came down to the final shot by Curry to tie it with Harris but unfortunately he missed handing the 3-Point Champion to Brooklyn Nets Joe Harris. See video below of a recap

For the final part of the Saturday night event saw the Slam Dunk Contest showcase some crazy dunks featuring celebrities and past stars. This year we saw Miles Bridges (Hornets), John Collins (Hawks), Hamidou Diallo (Thunder) & Dennis Smith Jnr (Knicks) with Diallo taking home the silverware.

Diallo brought the house down with his second dunk of the first round, calling out and jumping over Hall of Fame TNT analyst and original Superman Shaquille O’Neal to net a perfect 50 from the judges. After clearing Shaq, Diallo stuck his elbow in the rim, a nod to dunk contest icon Vince Carter, and snatched open his Thunder jersey to show off the Superman shirt underneath.

Then came the main event. The All Star Game seeing Team Giannis taking on Team Lebron. Team Lebron is undefeated in the All Star competition coming from behind to beat Team Giannis 178-164.

Team Giannis took early control with a 53-37 first quarter, featuring a combined 28 points on 12-for-13 shooting from Bucks teammates Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. Team Giannis led by as many as 20 points, but Team LeBron made it a game with an 18-4 run, fueled by Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal, in the third quarter.

The teams traded leads early in the fourth and it was a three-point game with 4 1/2 minutes to go, but Team LeBron put it away with a 10-2 run featuring five straight points – a step-back 3-pointer over Joel Embiid and an alley-oop dunk from former teammate Kyrie Irving – from LeBron James.

Kia All-Star MVP Kevin Durant led Team LeBron with 31 points on 10-for-15 shooting, scoring 11 (on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting) in the fourth quarter. Nine other members of Team LeBron scored in double-figures.

While there was alot of highlights to report on, its best to check out the video below with some of the best!

“The Best Zelda Game Yet!”

0

Nintendo hasn’t stopped with the surprise announcements from its latest Direct presentation. A new, 3D remake of the Game Boy classic The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening which will be out on Switch later this year. This is announcement cannot come at a better time to cement Nintendo strong release calendar as Link’s Awakening is ONE of the best Zelda games that’s ever to be made. With Nintendo not providing much information at this stage but a very fluid trailer to show off the remake, where we get to see the GameBoy graphics remade in vibrant, colorful, and amazing looking 3D style keeping the feel the same but bringing it into this generation. I know we are excited but plenty of people out there who haven’t played this hit from the early 90’s will be sure to pick this up later this year.
