Throwback Store has been holding down the basketball and sneaker scene in Australia since 2011, and now they’ve stepped things up in a major way. Michael Lazarus and the Throwback Store family have opened a brand-new headquarters, which is not just a bigger location. It’s a full experiential hub built for the culture and pushing legacy every step of the way.
The moment Michael walked in, he knew the space was special. What he didn’t expect was the twist: this was the exact venue where he celebrated his 10th birthday. He didn’t realise until he stepped inside and the memories came flooding back. That kind of full-circle moment doesn’t happen by accident, it’s meant to be.

Front and centre inside the new HQ is something no other store in Australia can flex: a fully restored 1990s-era basketball court once owned by NBA legend Luke Longley. This is the very same hardwood the Sydney Kings trained on, kept in storage for over twenty years before being rebuilt, polished and brought back to life. Even the original rings from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games are here. It’s a piece of Aussie hoops history revived, respected and ready for the next generation.
The launch carried real significance, beginning with a Welcome to Country by prominent Indigenous Australian actor, host, and MC, Luke Carroll, That set the tone for a space that honours both community and culture. The event drew a serious crowd, NRL players Cody Walker & Paul Alamoti, ex-NBA legend and Aussie basketball legend Steve Carfino were all in attendance.

The HQ goes beyond retail. Future plans for the new HQ include a café, a curated Jordan Zone celebrating Throwback’s long-standing partnership with Nike, and dedicated spaces built for events and activations. Every corner is crafted, built for pushing legacy and community. It’s designed to move with the culture and give back to the people who keep it alive.

Support also came from brand partners. Including Hahn, Clean Collective, Li-Ning, NBA 2K and Resin Crew helping set the tone for this next era.

Throwback Store has never been just a retailer. With this new experiential headquarters, they’ve cemented themselves as one of the true leaders pushing legacy in Australian hoops, built on history, family, culture, and real love for the game.
The new HQ is now at 100 William Lane, Alexandria. Sydney, this is one you’ll want to experience in person.
