As its monumental 35th year is celebrated, the iconic Reebok sneaker of a boyhood hero and tennis legend is triumphantly returned. Today, my childhood idol Michael Chang‘s signature Reebok Court Victory Pump in the iconic white, green, and neon yellow colorway is unveiled. Initially launched in 1993, this retro edition marks its highly anticipated comeback. Whether it lives up to the original greatness will be explored.
As the youngest tennis player to win a major tournament, Michael Chang required a sneaker offering exceptional custom fit, traction, and responsiveness.
The Reebok Court Victory Pump, returning with the impressive multi-directional Herringbone Traction and a newly reformulated EVA foam that provides enhanced cushioning and responsiveness, was entered. Featuring Hexalites on the heel and forefoot for added cushioning, the sneaker boasts thick, full-grain white leather uppers with stitched-on toe box soles using real threads, reminiscent of the original. Additionally, the essential neon yellow rubber toe guard for tennis players, along with a green TPU cage for containment and stability, is included.
The heel is adorned with Reebok branding and the Hexalight logo, while the iconic Reebok Pump, situated above the tongue in the fuzzy Tennis Ball Pump, makes its functional return. Notably, the latest model’s configuration has shifted, with custom fit primarily derived from air bladders in the tongue.
The nostalgic fuzzy ball Pump remains a standout feature, evoking the coolness of the ’90s in today’s era. Completing the lockdown is a thickly padded collar, ensuring a snug fit.
Excitement about the return of this iconic sneaker in nearly its original form is evident, and it will be available on March 22nd for $280 AUD at the following stores:
