Nintendo just dropped one of its biggest Direct presentations of the year, and if you own a Switch 2, there is a lot to look forward to.
The September 9 Nintendo Direct packed around 45 minutes with new reveals, long-awaited updates, surprise announcements and some seriously big third-party games. From the return of Metroid and Kirby to Persona 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and a whole lot more, Nintendo is making it pretty clear that Switch 2 is building some serious momentum.
Here are some of the biggest announcements from the Direct.
Metroid Ravenous Is Here
Nintendo kicked things off with one of the biggest surprises of the presentation: Metroid Ravenous, a brand-new 2D adventure starring Samus Aran.
Building on the foundation of Metroid Dread, Ravenous brings a darker and more cinematic feel to the classic side-scrolling formula. Samus will face new enemies, explore dangerous environments and even absorb energy from enemies in a fight for survival.
The tagline says it all: eat or be eaten.

Kirby Is Going 3D Again
Kirby is back, and this time he’s heading into a huge new world.
Kirby and the World Beyond is a brand-new 3D adventure that lets players freely explore expansive environments while making creative use of Kirby’s iconic Copy Abilities.
The timing is pretty perfect too, with the game arriving during Kirby’s 35th anniversary year in 2027.
This one already looks like another must-have for Switch 2.

Monster Hunter Wilds Finally Comes to Switch 2
One of the biggest third-party announcements was Monster Hunter Wilds.
The acclaimed hunting action RPG is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the Forbidden Lands and its massive monsters to Nintendo’s latest hardware.
The Switch 2 version includes previously released Title Update content, including the Grand Hub, Mizutsune, Lagiacrus and the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration.
Better yet, the game supports local wireless multiplayer and online cross-platform multiplayer.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches December 4, 2026.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Is Coming
The Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is heading towards its conclusion, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation is coming to Switch 2.
Cloud and the gang take to the skies aboard the Highwind as they attempt to stop Meteor and Sephiroth’s plans for godhood.
For Nintendo fans, this is a pretty massive announcement. The third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake project is coming to Switch 2, giving players another way to experience one of gaming’s biggest modern RPG stories.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Gets the Definitive Treatment
Nintendo wasn’t done with Hyrule.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition brings the action-packed prequel to Breath of the Wild to Switch 2 with improved visuals, higher frame rates, more enemies on screen and a brand-new Calamity Mode difficulty.
It also includes all previously released Expansion Pass content.
Existing Switch players will also be able to transfer their save data.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition launches February 25, 2027.
Lara Croft Returns in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
One of gaming’s most recognisable characters is getting another big revival.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reimagines Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure for a new generation.
Players will travel across Peru, Greece and Egypt while searching for the Scion, facing deadly traps, dangerous creatures and plenty of classic Tomb Raider action.
It’s the original Lara Croft adventure rebuilt for modern hardware, and honestly, it looks like a pretty good way to revisit where it all began.

Persona 6 Is Coming to Switch 2
And then Nintendo casually dropped Persona 6.
The next chapter in Atlus’ hugely popular RPG series is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
Persona 6 will introduce a completely new cast and standalone story while keeping the series’ trademark combination of everyday life, social bonds, supernatural adventure and turn-based combat.
But Nintendo wasn’t finished with Persona.
Persona 4 Revival, the remake of the beloved classic, is also coming to Switch 2.
Persona 4 Revival launches May 20, 2027.
Resident Evil Is Bringing the Horror
Switch 2 is getting three Resident Evil classics in one hit.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are all coming to the system, rebuilt using Capcom’s RE ENGINE.
All three games launch digitally on October 16, 2026, with additional content included depending on the edition.
If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to turn your Switch 2 into a portable horror machine, this might be it.
LEGO Batman Is Back
Batman and LEGO are teaming up again in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
The new action-adventure combines LEGO’s trademark humour with a more expansive Gotham City, open-world exploration and harder-hitting combat.
The Deluxe Edition also includes the Mayhem Collection DLC, featuring additional story content and villains including The Joker and Harley Quinn.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches September 18, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.
Professor Layton Returns
Puzzle fans weren’t forgotten.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is finally getting closer to release, bringing the legendary professor and Luke back for another mystery.
This time, the pair head to Steam Bison, an industrial American town filled with strange incidents, puzzles and secrets waiting to be uncovered.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
Another major Nintendo release is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
Set in the Dagdan Empire, players will compete in the Heroic Games while navigating a story filled with battles, rivalries and characters whose stories intertwine.
And unlike many of the games shown during the Direct, you won’t have to wait until next year.

Pikmin 4 Gets Bigger on Switch 2
Pikmin 4 is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and Nintendo is adding something new for players who really want to test their Dandori skills.
The new Dandori Academy introduces additional challenges, online leaderboards, medals and 72 stages rolling out over time.
There’s also voice control for Oatchi using the Switch 2’s built-in microphone.

The Witcher 3 Gets a Switch 2 Upgrade
Geralt is also making his return.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered arrives on Switch 2 with improved visuals, performance and gameplay enhancements.
The new version adds gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and touchscreen support.
Even better, existing Switch owners can upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free.

And there’s more Witcher on the way, with the new Songs of the Past expansion planned for 2027.
Mega Man and Proto Man Team Up
Mega Man is getting another adventure with Mega Man: Dual Override.
This time, Proto Man joins the action as a fully playable character, giving players two very different ways to take on Robot Masters.
Mega Man brings his ranged attacks while Proto Man uses his shield-based fighting style, with Custom Chips allowing players to customise their abilities.

And Then Nintendo Dropped Even More
That was only part of it.
The Direct also revealed or highlighted Star Fox updates, Star Fox Adventures coming to Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics, Mario Kart World content, Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass Part 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Danganronpa 2×2, Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX, Metal Slug Ultimate Collection and plenty more.
There were also some seriously unexpected third-party announcements, including Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, The Witcher 3, Stellar Blade, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Far Cry 3, It Takes Two, The Crew Motorfest and 007 First Light.
Basically, Nintendo wasn’t messing around.
Switch 2 Is Starting to Look Very Busy
Coming off yesterday’s massive Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo followed it up with another showcase packed with games.
And that’s probably the biggest takeaway.
Switch 2 is no longer just about Nintendo’s own first-party lineup. With games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Persona 6, Resident Evil, The Witcher 3, Tomb Raider and Stellar Blade joining Nintendo’s own franchises, the platform is building a pretty serious library.
Then you’ve got Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond, Fire Emblem, Professor Layton and more filling out Nintendo’s own roadmap.
The next few months are going to be busy.
And honestly? Switch 2 owners are eating good.
