ASICS is linking up with INVINCIBLE® and MADNESS for a fresh take on the GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1, bringing together Japanese running heritage, contemporary Asian street culture and MADNESS’ signature outdoor-meets-urban aesthetic.
Following INVINCIBLE® and ASICS’ GEL-NIMBUS™ 10.1 collaboration in 2025, the two return in 2026 with MADNESS joining the project for the first time. The result is a GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1 that feels right at home between the city and the outdoors.
Inspired by Dolomite Rock, the sneaker takes cues from natural textures and mineral surfaces. Around ten different materials are layered across the upper, creating a mix of textures and contrasts while keeping the design lightweight and breathable.
A translucent MONO yarn overlay adds another dimension, creating a subtle visual window across the upper that represents the transition between urban environments and outdoor exploration.
The details continue with signature INVINCIBLE® and MADNESS touches, including zigzag stitching, statement branding and fluorescent contrast hits. Rather than going loud with the colour palette, the collaboration keeps things understated with layered bone white and cream tones for a natural, low-saturation finish.
Underneath, the GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1 retains its original running DNA and comfort-focused foundation, while the three brands give the archival silhouette a more contemporary, retro-futuristic direction.
For MADNESS founder Shawn Yue, the collaboration was an opportunity to explore how materials and design could connect ASICS’ sporting heritage with the brand’s appreciation for nature, urban environments and everyday wear.
The INVINCIBLE® x MADNESS x ASICS GEL-KAYANO™ 12.1 is ultimately about movement in all forms — from running through the city to exploring beyond it — while showing just how versatile ASICS’ archival running silhouettes can be in today’s lifestyle space.
