NBA is BACK on the 31st of July

0

This is the one sporting code we have been waiting for to return since the COVID-19 pandemic took over the world, and now it appears we have a date and also what to expect when the NBA returns to the court. This date would be July 31st. 4 and a half months after the league was suspended due to coronavirus.

The NBA’s board of governors intends to approve a league proposal on a 22 team format to restart the season in Orlando, Florida. Commissioner Adam Silver and the league’s advisory/finance committee have shared the broad details of a plan with the teams to play at the Walt Disney Resort. The plan includes 13 Western Conference teams and 9 Eastern Conference teams. The game format would consist of 8 regular season games, a possible play-in tournament for the 8th seed and playoffs.

The top 16 teams across the league will also be joined by teams currently within 6 games of 8th place in each conference. This will allow New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns & Washington Wizards to compete for the 8th spot.

The play-in tournament will include the 8th & 9th teams, if the 9th seed finishes the regular season within 4 games of 8th. In that case, the 8th seed enters a double-elimination tournament & the 9th seed a single-elimination tournament.

The NBA & NBA Players Association are negotiating details of the return to play’s safety protocols and competition as we speak. Life in the NBA bubble will be governed by a set of strict safety protocols. While players and coaches will be allowed to golf or eat at outdoor restaurants, they would also need to maintain social distancing guidelines. The NBA is planning on having uniform daily testing for coronavirus within the disney campus environment.

Wilson to become official ball of NBA

0

Wilson is set to become the official ball of the NBA, WNBA, NBA G-League, NBA 2K League & Basketball Africa League from the 2020-21 season taking over from Spalding who has been the offical ball for more then 30 years.

The NBA Wilson ball will be used during the NBA’s 75th anniversary season. “This partnership with Wilson returns us to our roots as we plan for the future” Salvatore LaRocca, NBA President, Global Partnerships. “The NBA were partners for 37 seasons dating back to when Wilson manfactured the first official NBA basketballs in 1946, and we look forward to growing the game of basketball together”

Wilson will manufacture the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League game balls using the same materials, eight-panel configuration and performance specifications as current game balls and will also source the same leather currently used in the NBA.  The NBA and its players will work jointly with Wilson to develop and approve the new game ball.

The finanical terms of the NBA’s partnership with Wilson were not disclosed.

The end of the NBA’s partnership with Spalding comes as bit of a surprise. Spalding began making the basketballs exclusively for the NBA starting in 1983. After 30 years using leather balls, the company switched to synthetic version of the balls in 2006, only to suffer backlash. Spalding then sought feedback from players before making another switch.

What are your thoughts on this? Will you run out and buy a new ball for your home/social games?

Sonic The Hedgehog Sequel Confirmed

0

Some good news for Sonic fans this morning with Paramount Pictures & Sega confirming Sonic The Hedgehog is getting a sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog started down a rocky road with the first trailer leading to the fans saying the movie was doomed. This caused Paramount Pictures to re-do all CGI around Sonic to make him look like Sonic which then led to a surprising result at the box office. The movie brought in around 306million USD on a budget of 90 odd million. The time in the movies was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic and we will see the release of the movie onto DVD/Blu-Ray from June 3

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

The first film ended with Eggman/Robotnik, having shed his more presentable black-suited appearance for full-blown video game giant moustache cosplay ensemble, stranded on a mushroom kingdom planet, while a post-credits scene revealed that Sonic’s sidekick Tails had arrived.

So maybe this sequel will be a lot more like the games than the very-fast-ET premise of the last movie.

The original talent team behind the movie are reporting all coming back for the sequel but none of the cast has been confirmed for the sequel as of yet. Stay tuned for more developments around the sequel announcement.

Are you looking forward to seeing the sequel? Were you a fan of the first one? Let us know what you think.

Henry Cavill to return as Superman

0

Back in 2018 it was suggested that Henry Cavill was stepping away from his role as Clark Kent/Superman in the DC Universe. This was around the time Henry went on to film The Witcher for Netflix.

Breaking news today that Cavill & Warner Bros. have set a deal for the Man of Steel actor to reprise his role as Superman in future DC Comics-based films. This deal has not confirmed that there will be a Man of Steel sequel. Instead, Warner Bros. will use Cavill’s Superman similarly to how Marvel Studios has used the Hulk, playing supporting roles and making cameo apperances in films headlined by other heroes.

This new deal has been brought to the table due to Cavill appearing on the live stream rewatch of Man of Steel last week that Zach Synder hosted and also confirmed his cut of Justice League was indeed getting done for HBO Max in 2021.

Thoughts on this deal DC fans? Is Henry still the right fit to play the Man of Steel? Let us know what you think.
