“The shot is a bold attempt to capture your attention and lead your sight towards one half of the dynamic duo dubbed as ‘Tech Pack’ between Saucony and Packer Shoes.

Both pairs are made of coloured suede overlays with accents and full-on ripstop nylon as the base done in one of the comfiest silhouettes from Saucony – the GRID 9000.

I personally love the colourway which is a wonderful tone of red, yellow and blue. Seldom will you see this combination, which simply works for me and the pair is really eye-catching!”

Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

0

Google yesterday finally revealed their new phone lineup with the announcement of the Pixel 4 & Pixel 4 XL. Here is a quick overview of the 2 phones.

The new and improved Google Assistant is deeply integrated into the Pixel 4 lineup making it a quicker response time and easier to use. The Assistant on the Pixel 4 will now support continued conversations. This will allow you to ask followup questions without the need to pause to say another word.

Both models are running the same display this year with a 90Hz display. Google calls them Smooth Displays and they can be toggled between 60 & 90Hz in the settings. Displays with higher refresh rates have been growing in popularity lately, so this should be a winner in our eyes.

Google has ditched the rear mounted fingerprint sensor in these models and gone with face unlock system. According to Google, this will be the fastest face unlock system on any phone to date. This is due to Google’s new motion-sensing Soli chip. This chip also has a new feature called Motion Sense that will allow the phone to sense users motions. With this you will be able to skip a song, snooze alarms and silence calls with a wave of your hand.

Google is finally jumping on the dual-camera train. Both the Pixel 4 & Pixel 4 XL will have a rear facing 12MP Dual Pixel sensor & a 16MP telephoto lens for 2x zoom. This will result in wider-range portrait shots. Live HDR+ is a new feature as well. This will allow users to preview HDR+ processing in the camera app before taking the photo. Night Sight on the Pixel 4 range will darken and denoise skies using computational photography which will give you amazing low light shots.

Both sizes will come in 3 colours. Just Black, Clearly White and a limited edition Oh So Orange will be available. Release date is set for 24th October and will start at $1049 (depending on which one and sizing. 64GB and 128GB models will be available)

Foot Locker Opens New Power Store in Melbourne

0

As soon as Foot Locker Australia announced that the 11th of October is the opening day of their new Power Store, hundreds of sneaker campers descended the QV Melbourne shopping mall, to be one of the first to set foot on the new store and perhaps have a shot at copping some impressive heat restocks.

Much love to Foot Locker Australia for inviting The Kickz Stand crew over to their launch party.

The store is massive. Perhaps the biggest sneaker store currently in Australia. We were immediately greeted and welcomed by the most amazing and friendly staff this side of the planet. The first thing that catches your eye as you enter is the fiber glass basketball backboard flanked by two enormous screens. We would find out later that they are attached to gaming consoles, wherein visitors could play their favorite games. Positioned to right is a set of wooden bleachers. The bleachers immediately gave us the premium basketball feels. Not only was it well designed but it provided a functional place to hang out and try on kicks. The top floor was literally on another level. Spacious and elegantly designed. This was where all the dedicated lifestyle, women’s and children’s gear would be. Make sure you check out and take a selfie with the dope throne made of sneaker boxes!

As explained to us by their Senior Director, Fletcher Adams, this Power Store is only one of 6 in the world and the first in Asia Pacific. Their vision was to provided an awesome place not just to cop the latest and greatest gear but a place where the various subcultures of sneakerdom could meet and hang out. The various stunning iconic pictures of Melbourne that adorned the joint further reinforced this vibe!

So what are you waiting for? Head on down to Foot Locker QV, check out this cool new spot and maybe cop a heat or two!!!

“It’s a weird and surreal feeling walking into a sneaker store and seeing your babies…your creations over the last 33 years still competing with one another in this present day.” — Steven Smith

Once again we have to thank Hype DC and The Weekly Drop for bringing one of our sneaker heroes to Burn City. Regarded and credited by sneakerheads as the father of dad shoes, our hero Steven Smith looks like any other bloke you’d pass by on the street with dope kicks. But beneath this unassuming man is a plethora of amazing sneaker war stories that narrates about how he and his bold designs changed the modern landscape of the sneaker scene we know today.

Or in his own loving term how he disrupted and f@&ked the $h*t up in the shoe industry.

As a 21 year old fresh graduate of industrial design, Steven was never destined to follow the herd. While the rest of his colleagues went on to design devices and machines for factories and hospitals, he landed… actually stumbled upon his first job with New Balance. It was actually not encouraged and was actually frowned upon by his family. Being the trailblazer he is, he pushed on, didn’t listen and followed his dreams. Lucky for us because his tenure with New Balance gave birth to some of our favourite sneaker silhouettes. The 997s, the 574s and the 1500s just some of the few of his timeless creations. Also while at NB, this ‘disruptor’ would somehow convince the execs to move away from their traditional grey shades and experiment with brighter palettes.

From New balance he would go on and do work for companies like Nike and Fila. He would again collaborate and create some more classic designs from these companies, but it was his tenure at Reebok that would eventually birth an iconic sneaker that is so far, far ahead of its time.
Back then, Reebok wanted to create the ultimate in your face sneaker that would further propel them forward against their Nike arch rivals during the great sneaker wars of the 90s. With the go signal to use the latest and greatest Reebok tech at his disposal (hexalite, graphlite) and all the while taking cues and inspirations from a ski boot and a blood pressure pump bladder the Reebok Instapump Fury was born. Initially, the Reebok execs weren’t really too thrilled with the design and the colorway of the bold Furys. They were willing to produce the sneakers but only if was released in grey shades. As a sign of protest, Steven spray painted a sample with grey colors and chucked them to the desk of the marketing department in disgust. Steven would eventually get his way. The iconic citron and red colorway we know and love would eventually release along with a more safe grey colorway.

Guess which colorway sold the most.

On a side note, you know you hit a homerun when your rival across the pond decides to bring out their own version of the pump. Please see the Nike Air Pressure, Nike Air Command Force and the Nike Air Force 180 pump. Classics yes. But they would never reap the same success as the Reebok Pump line. Hard to imagine a world where Reebok actually lorded it over Nike, but yes it did happen kids.

So who is this designer genius/Japanese vintage collector working for right now? Due to a very lengthy non-disclosure agreement with a very prominent media personality associated with the Kardashians we can’t officially tell you. However, there were cryptic tweets left online and the sneaker he was wearing below might give you a hint or two. Till then our lips are totally sealed.

To our future sneaker designers, our man Steven Smith leaves us with this story.

He once asked a fellow sneaker designer if he would pay $150 for his own designed shoe.

The sneaker designer flat out said: “NO!!!”

This pissed Steven off. He reckons why bother designing something you couldn’t even be excited and hyped for?!?

Then he said: “Change the world, challenge conventional and traditional thinking…F@$K Sh*t UP!!! Make me go WOW!!!”

“I can go anywhere in the world and still see my designs.” — Steven Smith
