After smashing it with previous releases of the Sneaker Stone creature series, Limited Edt. and Singaporean artist tobyato are teaming up again for something extra special. This time, they’re dropping a brand-new, exclusive colourway of the Sneaker Stone Dragon called the ‘VandaWave.’ Only 98 pieces are being made, each individually numbered, and they’re exclusively produced by ActionCity.
The ‘VandaWave’ edition takes inspiration from Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim, and gives it a modern twist with vaporwave vibes. The gradient colour application combines a sense of heritage with street culture, making it a perfect mix of old and new.
Behind the Design
If you’ve ever noticed stone lions guarding the entrances of buildings across Asia, you know they’re meant to welcome guests while also serving as protectors. For tobyato, this idea ties closely to his journey into the world of street culture. Art was his doorway into sneakers, and he’s taken that concept further by remixing the iconic stone lions into something totally unique.
The Sneaker Stone Dragons are his creative spin on these mythical creatures, combining their traditional shapes with sneaker elements like shoelaces, tongues, and stitching. They’re more than just cool collectibles—they’re also tobyato’s way of saying “welcome” to everyone who shares his love for street culture.
