The GR version of the ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 may actually outperform the initial release. And there are good reasons why.
Today, we’re checking out the ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 “Graphite Grey / Black”. This colourway is built for the streets. It retails for $240 AUD and is now available at asics.com.au.
Despite the chunky appearance, the fit runs true to size but snug. If you have average or wide feet, going half a size up is highly recommended.
So, what makes the GR pair stand out?
1. Heritage Aesthetics with a Y2K Edge
First, the design.
The upper takes heavy inspiration from the ASICS GEL-1050 from 2000. However, this update feels more refined.
Suede overlays meet silver reflective panels. Lightweight, breathable mesh ties it all together. As a result, the sneaker delivers a strong heritage runner look with a modern Y2K twist. Clean. Timeless. Street-ready.

2. Upgraded Midsole Comfort
Next, the cushioning.
Unlike the original ASICS GEL-NYC, the 2.0 now features FF BLAST+ foam.
This upgrade creates a noticeably bouncier and more responsive ride. Heel-to-toe transitions feel smooth and plush. In addition, exposed GEL pods in the forefoot and heel absorb impact, while the TRUSSTIC Guidance TPU shank improves stability.
Comfort is a clear win here.

3. Lifestyle-Focused Traction
Lastly, the outsole.
The sole design borrows from the ASICS GEL-LYTE DS II.
Flex grooves and pod-style traction improve flexibility and grip. Because of this, the GEL-NYC 2.0 feels ideal for everyday lifestyle wear, especially on urban surfaces.

Final Verdict
Respect to the ASICS design team.
The ASICS GEL-NYC 2.0 is a well-developed sneaker that balances comfort, style, and functionality. It’s a worthy successor to the original GEL-NYC and a strong lifestyle runner for 2026.
These are easily getting heavy rotation this year.
