ASICS x Cecilie Bahnsen GT-2160™

0

ASICS is pleased to announce a collaboration with Cecilie Bahnsen, coming together to launch a collection of sneakers, re-interpreting ASICS’ GT-2160™ sneaker. Following the highly anticipated capsules of hand-embellished trainers developed between the brands, this collaboration continues to celebrate the intersection of everyday couture, movement and comfort, combining Bahnsen’s intricate feminine DNA with ASICS’s technical expertise.

In launching this special project, Cecile Bahnsen has come together with regular partner of the brand, Japanese photographer Takashi Homma, to create a captivating visual showcase of the Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS collaboration. The campaign captures the essence of the collection with images of a girl gracefully moving through Tokyo at twilight, donning the ASICS sneakers and the Cecilie Bahnsen Fall Winter 2023 Collection.

The campaign and collaboration have been presented in a gallery style format during a pop-up event coinciding with Paris Fashion Week. Taking place from June 21st to 24th, the pop-up featured large-scale prints of Takashi Homma’s images, displayed throughout the space. The pop-up paid homage to the studied craftsmanship and passion invested in this collaboration, echoing the artistry behind each shoe. The GT-2160™, exhibited on plinths in a raw space, have created a striking contrast in merging Cecilie Bahnsen’s feminine universe with ASICS’s technical appeal alongside the visual campaign.

The first of two drops of the Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS collection have officially launched on ceciliebahnsen.com and MATCHES on July 5th followed by the global release on July 19th. The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GT-2160 will be available in two colorways; black and white, priced at $300 AUD

With comfort and unique style sitting at the core of the collaboration, the GT-2160™ is constructed with a light; feminine and modern take on a Mary Jane shoe, where transparencies and florals are paired with everyday couture.

“Building upon an ongoing partnership with ASICS, this new collaboration continues to push the boundaries of Cecilie Bahnsen’s modern vision of femininity, interpreted through the lens of movement, motion, and mindfulness. Finding harmony between intricate couture detailing and hyper-feminine embellishments with ASICS’ technical and functional universe is an exciting design challenge that we welcome with each collaboration.”

– Cecilie Bahnsen

These shoes are available to purchase on ceciliebahnsen.com and MATCHES, followed by the global release on July 19th where they will be available to purchase on ASICS.comAbove The Clouds and Highs and Lows.

Saint Barkley x Sole Superior

0

Our homies from Singapore, Sole Superior, join forces with Indonesian sneaker brand Saint Barkley for a limited edition sneaker. This international collaboration project was born from mutual admiration and respect, and it took 4 years in the making.

First previewed in Singapore at Sole Superior last November 2022 and introduced to the Indonesian community at Jakarta Sneaker Day in February 2023, the collaboration generated unplanned buzz when the sample pairs were stolen from the secured display. Taking this in a positive light, both Saint Barkley and Sole Superior offered a reward for any assistance in recovering the samples, praising the sneaker thief for having “Terrific Taste, Terrible Ethics”. The samples were never recovered.

Inspired by the popularity of ‘Scratch N Sniff’ stickers of the 1980s, the Saint Barkley x Sole Superior sneaker collab features:
● A bubble gum scented tongue that discharges scent when coming in contact with the wearer’s foot.
● Peach suede upper with light reflective stitching.
● Vulcanised white rubber midsole with Saint Barkley’s trademark volt green sole.
● 3 exclusive Saint Barkley x Sole Superior Air Fresheners
● Action figure / Clear Window shoebox packaging

In keeping with the goal of creating a fresh and timeless sneaker that is available for skateboarders and sneakerheads from all walks of life, the Saint Barkley x Sole Superior limited edition sneaker will retail at the affordable price of $66 SGD.

The Saint Barkley x Sole Superior limited edition sneaker release will also be accompanied by a matching apparel capsule that consists of a Tee Shirt, Cap and Coach Jacket, of course all in limited numbers.

The Saint Barkley x Sole Superior limited edition sneaker will be releasing in-store at Saint Barkley HQ in Bandung Indonesia and online exclusively at Saint Barkley’s Shopee SG store on Sunday the 9th of July, 2023. Limited to only 500 pairs. For more information about the Saint Barkley brand, visit https://saintbarkleyshoes.com/. Oakley Factory Team Introduces Paguro Capsule Collection

The Oakley Factory Team expands its creative ecosystem to include the Paguro Capsule Collection. The brand-new silhouette is the first-of-its-kind to be calibrated and developed deep in the Factory Team Labs.

Available in three organic tones – Coffee (for purchase exclusively through Brain Dead), Hummus and Toadstool – Paguro’s dynamic silhouette gets its name from the crustaceans that evolved by migrating from shell to shell.

Each Paguro mule is formed with a unique compound structure to create an intricate organic casing for lasting comfort and support. This intentional design is complimented by two contrasting densities of injected EVA which form the foundation of the sandal. Paguro’s durable heel insert provides a bouncy springboard for each step, while its cosy interior is calibrated by a firm exterior. An extra-dense outsole material grounds the shoe and keeps a tight grip on terrain as you explore.

The Oakley Factory Team Paguro in Toadstool is not poisonous to humans, unlike its fungus cousin. A unique purple hue gives these sandals a sense of softness and calm, one that encourages your feet to call this slip-on home.

The mouth-watering hue of the Oakley Factory Team Paguro in Hummus makes it the go-to mule for any occasion. The neutral upper mixed with the contrasting traction pods add to the complexity of its flavour.

The tasteful and sleek Oakley Factory Team x Brain Dead Paguro in Coffee, available for purchase exclusively through Brain Dead, is a subtle choice that complements any colour palette. Bold and with eye-catching details, the Coffee Paguro features a silhouette that seamlessly slips on.

The exclusive Oakley Factory Team x Brain Dead Paguro Toadstool and Hummus colorways will be available from July 11 at 10 AM PT on WEAREBRAINDEAD.COM, Oakley.com, at select Brain Dead locations worldwide, and the following Oakley stores:

ASICS Sportstyle Revives the GT-2160™

Today, ASICS SportStyle announces the return of the GT-2160™ sneaker that originally debuted within the GT-2000™ series during the 2010s. The reissue of the heritage model highlights the tech evolution that was taking place in this era of running shoe development.

This shoe retains its sleek and wavy aesthetic that was symbolic of the GT-2000™ series’ technical design language. Meanwhile, dual GEL™ technology inserts are positioned in the rearfoot to help create advanced cushioning and comfort underfoot. The design also includes a segmented midsole construction that replicates a popular development feature that became popular amongst ASICS running shoe models between the mid 2000s and late 2010s.

The GT-2160™ sneaker will launch with collaborations from DIME and Cecilie Bahnsen that include special iterations to mark the return of the heritage runner.

The inline version will launch Friday, July 7th, in White/Pure Silver, White/Illusion Blue, and White/Shamrock Green on ASICS SportStyle online and in select stores for $180 AUD.

The shoe will be available online at the ASICS SPORTSTYLE website  from 7 July with an RRP of $180.

ASICS and HAL STUDIOS complete their trilogy collaboration with the GEL-1130™ MK III ‘GLACIER’

0

Closing out their highly anticipated trilogy, ASICS and HAL STUDIOS® join forces once again to present their third instalment, the GEL-1130 MK III “GLACIER”. Building upon their ongoing conversation and collaborative partnership, the project again embraces the theme of drawing inspiration from the natural world.

The MK III takes its cues from the rugged and captivating landscapes found in glaciers worldwide. From the unforgiving terrains and majestic mountain ranges to the contrasting elements of black sand beaches, snow, ice, and serene water valleys, these environments serve as the inspiration for the MK III design.

The GEL-1130 MK III GLACIER celebrates ASICS’ advanced technology fused with the HAL STUDIOS® “Design Thinking” ideology. Following the approach of the previous releases, the MK III iteration continues the maximal minimalism ethos by reducing the usual characteristics and aesthetics of a traditional sports shoe. Instead, the design accentuates the retro-futuristic form and shape of the archival running silhouette through the pairing of contrasting textures and tones.

Paris will have the privilege of being the first city to experience the MK III GLACIER, with a pre-launch event taking place at the PFW pop-up store in the renowned DSM 35/37 venue. HAL STUDIOS® has conceived a unique installation, inspired by the principles of readymade art, where the collaborative sneakers will be encased within blocks of ice and housed within an industrial freezer. This immersive display elevates the footwear to the realm of art, allowing viewers to observe and appreciate them from a distance.

Following the pop-up event, HAL STUDIOS®‘ online store will unveil the collaborative footwear project at a later date, offering a wider audience the opportunity to secure a pair.

It’s More Than Just Sneakers Brisbane 2023 Recap

The second event of It’s More Than Just Sneakers – Lifestyle Tour 2023 took us to South East Queensland on the 10th of June. It was a great day filled with an awesome mix of vendors selling a bunch of cool sneakers, vintage streetwear, accessories, homewares and everything in-between. The Community was out in full force as well; all rocking some heat on their feet and soaking up all of the items on display and on sale.

Our friends from Monster Energy were also in attendance interacting with everyone with some games of beer-pong and cornhole. Successful players walked away with Monster Energy merch like hoodies, key chains and stubby holders. But of course, you didn’t have to win to get some free drinks, too.

The highlights of our event were the giveaways and raffle prizes from all our sponsors throughout the day. A lot of people walked away with some cool stuff – sneakers, streetwear, G-Shock watches, and Footlocker vouchers to name a few. Each event, we give away prizes worth up to $10,000. A special thank you to some of our vendors who donated items like streetwear packs and sneakers to add to the raffle prize pool!

Everyone really enjoyed the day! We got some great compliments from vendors and attendees alike. We are definitely looking forward to holding another event/s in the Brisbane or Gold Coast area (or both) next year.

Stranger Things x CASIO A120WEST

CASIO and Netflix join forces for a collaboration model A120WEST inspired by the highly acclaimed series, Stranger Things. Stranger Things is a Netflix mystery adventure series set in 1980’s small-town America.

In 1983, a young boy vanishes into thin air from a sleepy American mid-west town. As friends, family, and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl. A love letter to the 80’s classics that captivated a generation.

The new watch design was inspired by Stranger Things, a show with plenty of references to 1980’s culture. Based on the A120, a watch inspired by digital watches CASIO released in the 1980’s, the design pays homage to the ‘Upside Down’, an alternate dimension that exists in parallel to the human world.

The watch face depicts the world of the Stranger Things characters, with pop, colourful front buttons reminiscent of the 1980’s with a Demogorgon appearing at the centre, as he appears in the human world. When the LED light button is pressed, the show name is revealed printed upside down, implying the presence of another world on the other side. The back of the case and translucent band are designed with eerie tentacles stretching out from the underworld, evoking the connection between the two worlds.

The special packaging is illustrated with images of the show’s cast of young characters. Seasons 1-4 of Stranger Things are now streaming globally on Netflix.

The Stranger ThingsCASIO A120WEST are set to release this month June 2022. You can register your interest through casiowatches.com.au. To stay up to date, make sure you sign up to our newsletter. For other CASIO features, please click here.

New Up There Flagship Store

0

Cult Melbourne fashion boutique UP THERE is expanding its footprint with a 345 sqm flagship store at 69 Flinders Lane Melbourne, now officially open.
Born in 2010 by James Barrett, Brendan Mitchell and Jason Paparoulas, the store marks an important milestone and growth for the quiet achievers who are carving their names in Melbourne’s fashion retail scene.

The current McKillop Street boutique will close on June 4, diverting customers to the new flagship which will accompany its sister brand Up There Athletics at 179 Flinders Lane.
“The new store was born out of numerous factors but simply put, we’ve outgrown our original home. We needed something bigger and more functional, but it also fulfils our burning desire to create a new retail environment that’s a truly unique experience not only in Melbourne, but on a global level,” says Barrett.

“The space has product at the forefront, it is all about providing an environment that matches the quality and design of the products we sell. Providing them a home that can elevate and tell the story of each piece,” adds Mitchell.
Designed in partnership with acclaimed Melbourne architects, Kennedy Nolan, the space was created with a desire to push the boundaries in materiality and colour that is traditionally used in a retail store. It is inspired by the distinctive space: partially subterranean, situated at the base of the iconic Herald and Weekly Times building and is
characterised by a deep plan opening at its farthest point to the atmospheric urban shadows of Sargood Lane.

Together, Kennedy Nolan and UP THERE created a brief for a store interior which was to be theatrical, cinematic and abstract.

“Each element of the store has been considered, from the shimmering surfaces of flat and perforated galvanised steel, to the elevated experience of fitting rooms with their secret salon, complemented with the roughcast texture of the ‘concession’ shells right through to the overall colour palette of unexpected, saturated colour.
Guarding the entry and perhaps marking the strongest visual imprint are the two temple dogs at the front of the store – they are vitrines for merchandise, but more importantly they are mascots for the store. They define the space as a place where something special happens and are there to welcome you back on every visit,”
says Adriana Hanna of Kennedy Nolan.

Another focal point is intense green flooring that spans the entire ground level, resonant of a grassy field. Green is a key colour for the brand and can also be found on the ceilings which are blanketed in an inky dark green.

Merchandise is organised into discrete zones, a concession approach which reflects some key characteristics of the brand – curating and displaying stock in themes, providing scope for collaborations, events and exclusive releases.

“Essentially, we just want to be good hosts to our customers, so there is a real emphasis on places to hang out in the store. All the spaces are social, but at the very end of the store is a large table and generous banquettes creating a spot to try on some sneakers and have a coffee from the in-house café,” says Paparoulas.

Committed Melbournians with a global outlook, Barrett and Mitchell travel twice a year to Tokyo, Paris and New York to source their masterfully curated unisex collection that is home to the most exclusive sneaker releases from Nike, Jordans, Adidas, New Balance, Asics and Salamon.

Since its inception, UP THERE have introduced 27 new brands to the Australian market. It currently has the largest selection of Kapital in the country as well as stocking Bleue Burnham, Margaret Howell, Nicholas Daley, Engineered Garments, Norse Projects, Junya Wantanabe, 4SDesigns and Beams Plus. It is the only store in Australia to be currently collaborating with New Balance, and also one of the few working with Asics.

“The way we have gone about things so far has meant that we are one of the more genuine retail stores around. This is a result of how we interact with our community, how we do our buying, how we present ourselves in store. We definitely have an ‘UP THERE’ way of doing things which people appreciate,” adds Barrett.

While the new flagship is bigger, brighter and bolder than its previous iteration, the sense of community remains strong and at the forefront of the entire experience that now plays on a global scale. So, whether you’re a tourist visiting for the first time or a committed customer, there’s space for you at UP THERE.
