High Voltage Can Jump

0

Queensland Rail‘s new safety “High Voltage Can Jump” campaign, targets risk taking behaviour on the rail network whilst raising awareness of the hidden dangers of the overhead powerlines which carry 25,000 volts – 100 times more powerful than the domestic supply.

Based on the true story of an electric shock survivor, this story is told from the perspective of the survivor’s mate who was with him at the time of the incident.

The campaign highlights that people do not have to come into direct contact with overhead lines to suffer an electric shock or worse, electrocution. The strength of 25,000 volts in the overhead power line system means electricity can jump and arc out, not just destroying soles, but friendships, relationships and families.

Based on the true story of an electric shock survivor, this story is told from the perspective of the survivor’s mum.

You or an object do not have to come into direct contact with overhead lines to suffer an electric shock or endure life changing injuries. The strength of voltage in the overhead power line system means electricity can arc out at you. When someone receives an electric shock or gets electrocuted by being too close or coming into contact with overhead rail lines, the current often travels through their body and exits via their feet, essentially exploding their sneakers.

This sneaker has been intentionally damaged to show what 25,000 volts can do.

We have partnered up with Queensland Rail to assist in spreading awareness on this campaign to help save lives not just in Queensland but all around Australia. This Saturday (24th of August 2019) at our Brisbane lifestyle event, It’s More Than Just Sneakers at Concept venue in Fortitude Valley, Queensland Rail will be setting up an activation that will present this and also bring awareness to our guests regarding this serious issue which puts one’s life in danger.

Wade All City 7 ‘D&J’ Review

0

During the Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade‘s last year in the NBA, he was oftentimes seen on court wearing the All City 7. The future Hall of Famer frequently alternated with his signature Way of Wade 7s and his Team Wade All City 7s during his ‘Last Dance.’ Two totally distinct performance basketball kicks, with their own unique separate personalities and traits.

We take a deeper dive into the Wade AC7 and share our thoughts with you!

Perhaps the most distinguishable aspect of the AC7 is the lycra speed wrap on the uppers. Very reminiscent of the Lebron Soldier series. The nearly 360 wrap does exactly what it is designed to do. It keeps your foot contained and locked-on to the sneaker. It worked harmoniously with the embedded plastic heel cup counter and the lacing system to keep our foot in place. We experienced no slippages inside during our stop and go runs and side to lateral movements on the court.

Also, the uppers are made with a fuse mesh material making the sneaker breathable and ideal for longer court runs.

However, we felt that the loose neoprene sock was unnecessary and was there for aesthetics.

We recommend going true to size for narrow-footers and going .5 up for wide-footers.

FIT: 4.5/5

The midsole is packed with the current Li-Ning Cloud Cushioning technology. It is very light weight and responsive. It’s meant to absorb impact and release the energy back on to the athlete’s every step. The LN Cloud Cushioning and the plush reinforced insole blue foam gave us a very comfortable ride. It wasn’t squishy, but was dense where the base of our foot needed it the most.

The medial Way of Wade logo is not just for cosmetics alone. The logo served as a support during our side to side movements. We’re pretty sure it prevented a few ankle rolls.

One thing we missed though is the lack of a plastic shank plate underneath. Traditionally, shanks are meant to reinforce the connection between the insole and the outsole of the sneaker. It’s also meant to return energy with each of your stride preventing foot fatigue. While we experienced none during our work outs with the AC7, it will be interesting to note if this will be an issue in the long run.

CUSHION: 3.5/5

Turning the sneakers underneath, we find that is made up of the Tuff Rubber outsole. We found it to be really durable and dense. This makes the AC7 ideal for most types of court surfaces, specially outdoor ones. The outsole is cleverly designed with the number 7. 3 sevens makes up a singular twirling groove pattern. We noticed immediately that it was very grippy in all the surfaces and conditions we played on. Guards that love their crossovers, in and outs and hesitation dribbles will the enjoy the firm soles that extends in strategic spots in the midsole. This makes for a better connection with the surface during the push off motion with the inner side of their foot.

TRACTION: 5/5

While most basketball sneaker brands relegate their budget performance kicks to the second tier line or ‘team’ signatures and are quickly forgotten, this is not quite the case with the AC7s.

As we said previously, Wade alternated with AC7s and his signature WOW 7s because he enjoyed both their beastly performance on court and looks on feet.

We’ve always been impressed with how well Wades are made. You won’t find any excess glues, misplaced fabrics and dodgy paints in their kicks.

We found the modern and sleek design of the AC7 to be very visually pleasing and on par if not better than the designs of the more established brands.

While there are other dope colorways of the AC7, we found the ‘D&J’ and the ‘South Beach’ to be fire enough to be worn not just for balling but also for lifestyle.

LOOKS: 4/5

Whether you’re a huge Dywane Wade fan or a casual baller looking for something else other than the big 2 and want to stand out on court or on the streets, we recommend you check out the Wade All City 7. It ticks all the performance and drip boxes coming in at reasonable price range of $147 AUD – $221 AUD

Lastly, Sunlight Station provides one of the best customer services around. Not only do they provide and amazing customer experience but they provide amazing value for our dough. Extra care and attention is given to our sneakers when they are sent. They are bubble wrapped and double boxed. We also love the extra freebies and gifts they send with the kicks.

G-Shock x Jahan Loh for ION Orchard

0

ION Orchard celebrate its 10th Anniversary with an exclusive collaboration with G-Shock and Singapore artist Jahan Loh. The limited edition box-set comes in a sleek metal case, housing the iconic DW-5600 timepiece and an accompanying spaceman figurine.

Who is Jahan Loh?
Jahan Loh‘s passion for street art started in the early ’90s. Since then, his style have evolved into an amalgamation of street and contemporary art. An artist of many labels, an agent of counter culture, Jahan’s visual language places him at the cultural crosshairs of the east and west, and of fine art and street art. Jahan was also one of eight Singaporean street artists selected for 8Q-RATE, the opening exhibition of Singapore’s 8Q museum in 2008.

Jahan Loh: G-Shock GAME CHANGER

Adorned with tropical leaf-inspired patterns in white and cool grey tones, the DW-5600 piece brings to mind the lush greenery of past plantations found in Orchard Road back in the day. Together with a spaceman figurine (created by Jahan and affectionately named Rize) and a tagline “I Have Seen The Future” printed on the watch band, the design reflects the futuristic present of ION Orchard and is a testament to the growth of G-Shock in decades to come.

The G-Shock x Jahan Loh collaboration box-set (only 50 available) will retail at S$399, exclusively at ION Orchard from the 17th of August 2019.

“The colorway of the Shattered Backboard 1s just works. Black and orange blended in one of the most iconic sneaker silhouette spells instant classic. I know it’s been said numerous times, but I can’t say enough about the quality build and premium craftsmanship of it. Quality and jays is not something you hear often together with most releases by the brand, so when something well made like the SBBs comes along, it’s a definite must have in the rotation. Also, Air Jordan 1s are timeless. You can literally wear it with most fits and look good.

As for the shot, it was a very chilly but clear night in Melbourne. I wanted to go for a more calm and introspective shot, while trying to focus as much as I could on the sneaker. I tried my best to incorporate elements of my background into the entire shot. In this case, the leading lines of the bridge and the lighting helped out with the overall mood I wanted to create. I am pretty happy with the outcome to say the least.”

Thats right TKS family…If you build it, they will come!

The design of the ballpark in Dyersville, including the shape of the outfield and the bullpens beyond the center-field fence, will pay homage to Comiskey Park, which was home of the White Sox from 1910-90. The right-field wall will include windows to show the cornfields beyond the ballpark, which will overlook the movie set.

Saucony Grid Web OG Review

0

Making its debut in the year 2000 the Saucony Grid Web OG returns to us once again after nearly 20 years. Initially reintroduced as a collab with KITH and exclusively launched a few months ago at the ComplexCon, these are now readily available at our better local sneaker stores.

After spending a few weeks with the Grid Web, we now share with you our initial thoughts on these classics.

Right off the gate, the chunky soles caught our attention. Thick soles normally means a dense, solid and heavy material construction that would’ve normally felt like wearing bricks. That is not the case with these. They are surprisingly light and responsive. The entire cushioning is still made up of the same Saucony Grid Cushioning Technology. It’s the same tech Saucony uses for its modern day contemporary runners. Our feet did not feel tired at all after a day’s wear.

CUSHIONING: 4/5

Another interesting and amazing functional feature of these kicks is the outsole. Made-up of long lasting compound rubber and shaped into deep grooves and thick triangular patterns, these were really meant to be an all-rounder of a runner for any type of road and surface conditions. Not once did we experience and form of slippages from dusty and wet surfaces. Meanwhile, the plastic shank on the midfoot gave us excellent support and energy return during our strides.

TRACTION: 5/5

Breathable mesh covered in a geometric spider like web adorns the upper of the Grib Web. This allowed the sweat in our foot to be wicked away easily and the spider web overlay allowed for a much more stable and snug fit. Our foot felt fresher and more stable inside the upper containment. We didn’t experience any slippages inside the sneaker too. We recommend you go true to your size when getting these.

FIT: 4/5

The chunky dad shoe revolution has been around for awhile. Was Saucony too late in releasing these? We don’t think so. The dad shoe trend is still gaining steam and momentum. Brands are still capitalizing on this trend with their current offerings. What sets the Grid Web apart from the herd is that is it overall build and look. It’s got a classic old school look but at the same it has that modern feel we see in trainers today. It would definitely go with most of our fits today.

LOOK: 4/5

Overall, it’s a dope versatile sneaker that is reasonably priced at $200. You’re getting your money’s worth with a well-build and tech-packed runner. Whether you’re a sneakerhead, a fashion forward trend setter or just someone looking for some casual but dope looking kicks. We’re already looking forward to the next colorways that are coming out!

G-Shock x Sam Lo “We Are Singapore”

0

To celebrate Singapore’s 54th year of Independence, G-Shock Singapore teamed up with Sam Lo aka. Sticker Lady for a beautiful piece based on the GX-56BB model.

Sam Lo is a self-taught Singapore-based visual artist whose work revolves around social commentaries fuelled by daily observations of her surroundings and research into the sociopolitical climate.

The limited edition timepiece is in a stealthy all-black base and features SKL0’s vivid iconic titling, inspired by Singapore’s melting pot of culture. SKL0’s logo sits on the opposite band from “MAJULAH”, Malay for “Go Forward” and Singapore’s five stars.

Only 300 have been produced and only available in Singapore for SGD$229.

Saucony Grid Web is BACK!

0

Released in the year 2000, the Saucony Grid Web epitomized the seismic style changes rippling through the athletic goods industry at the turn of the Y2K millennium. Conservative minimalism was suddenly on the outer, replaced by oversized ‘cushion’ monsters with thumping mid-soles and kinetic uppers.

Video Credit: Sneaker Freaker Magazine

The Grid Web clearly did not subscribe the architect Mies van der Rohe’s ‘less is more’ design philosophy. The beefy upper laid an organic web cage over wide-open sports mesh. Graphical strikes race across the toes and heels, a motif that suggests bountiful speed. Gradient fades on the Saucony logo and webbing added extra doses of panache.

Release date is 26th of July 2019 and retail will be $200 AUD.

The Reebok OMNI Zone Pump ‘Celtics’ is such a classic sneaker.
Built like a tank, It was made for the consummate power player.

I thought of wearing it to the IMTJS event because it’s a sneaker you rarely see these days. The sneaker is not pretentious and loud, but if it’s something you saw back in day, you knew it repped the golden era of the NBA and the sneaker culture.

The sneaker is simple and clean with its color blocking, making it very versatile for any fit.
A simple black pants was enough to make this classic pop.

This shot was taken at the first ever IMTJS Event in Melbourne. Some of the boy’s were able to showcase their whips. I seized the opportunity to compose a group snap with the lads. I reckon the different colors of sneakers upfront blended really well the cars in the background.

This shot, I reckon really is… “It’s More than Just Sneakers!”

All nerds rejoice! San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) has come and gone for another year. And with that every year, Comic Con is always the place to unveil a new trailer for an upcoming blockbuster and have some killer panels to unveil future plans. So rather then running multiple pages, we thought we would place it all here for you to run over. We will go through Day by day with what happened.

Day 1 Wrap Up

Day 1 kicked off with a bang. We saw the prequel trailer for the Kingsman series. “The Kings Man” This movie is due to hit cinemas in Feb 2020. We already posted up the trailers for Top Gun Maverick and Jay & Silent Bob Reboot late last week. Check them out. Day 3 Wrap Up

Day 3 being the final day always brings some of the biggest announcements. And boy did it with the Marvel panel being the biggest of them.

During the Marvel panel on the final day, the unveiled the entire Phase Four plan. Everyone was wondering where they can go from here as they have been quite tight lipped over the next phase since the conclusion of Phase 3 with Spiderman: Far From Home. I think we are still getting over what Marvel put us through with Avengers: Endgame to be honest. See below for the outlay of whats to come in the following years. On top of all these, they announced that there are plans in place to bring the X-Men and other marvel superheroes back to the Marvel Universe along with a Blade Reboot in the works.

Marvel’s “Phase Four” Plans

On top of the Marvel stuff, we got the new trailers for the upcoming seasons of The Flash, Supergirl and the final season of Arrow. And the biggest one that debuted for TV was the trailer and first look of the new Star Trek Series, Star Trek: Picard. This series seems to bring in alot of old characters including Data, Riker and even Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager. See below for the trailers.

So thats a quick overview of SDCC for another year. There was alot more announced but we could be here all day going over it all.
