Mortal Kombat Official Trailer

0

2021 is ramping up its movie schedule with some killer releases. We can thank the guys over at HBO Max for this as the movies will debut in cinemas and on the streaming service the same day. First up we have one of the most anicapted movies which is the reboot to the Midway Games fighting game series, Mortal Kombat.

Funny enough, this movie was shot here in Australia. Well actually in South Australia to be exact. The movie was filmed between September to December 2019. The movie was originally slated for a 2020 release, but COVID-19 unforunately put a halt to that.

While this is a directional debut for Simon McQuoid, he has had the pleasure of having James Wan (Aquaman, Furious 7) produce the movie. So by checking out the trailer we can see this movie has no expense spared.

So how do we create a fighting game into a movie? The premise of the movie goes:
“A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld”

Mortal Kombat is scheduled to be released in cinemas and on the HBO Max streaming service on April 16, 2021.

So “get over here” and let us know what you think about the trailer before we “finish him”

“Once a sneakerhead, always a sneakerhead.

I’ve been collecting and shooting even though I was on my hiatus from Instagram.

I just got caught up with family, career and life in general. A couple of months off turned into a couple of years but I started getting a little more time on my hands and decided to get back out there.

A lot has changed and the quality of content out there is so good these days.

The 90s Chicago Bulls…That was my childhood right there. In the context of everything, sports isn’t really that important, but growing up, they really inspired me.

It was a concept I’d wanted to try for a while. But I knew from the start that it had to be paying tribute to MJ AND Scottie somehow. The only issue was that I didn’t have the Uptempos and waited for the retro last year. After that, everything came together pretty quickly, I started getting more into editing last year, though I’m very much still a novice.”

Pokémon x BABY-G BA-110PKC

0

BABY-G and The Pokémon Company, announced a new addition coming to the BABY-G line of women’s shock-resistant watches, the BA-110PKC, featuring the fan-favourite Pokémon, Pikachu, from the globally popular entertainment franchise.

Last year, to celebrate BABY-G’s 25th year, Casio issued a collaboration model featuring
Pikachu, the 25th Pokémon in the Pokédex. That anniversary model employed a dot-painting style reminiscent of video game art in the 90s, when BABY-G and Pokémon first released, and the Pikachu design elements throughout the whole digital watch were well-received around the world.

This second collaboration is an analog-digital watch with an outdoor theme, representing the active image of the BABY-G brand. The entire BA-110PKC band showcases a camouflage pattern and female Pikachu with a heart-shaped tail. The Pikachu design is infused with subtle details like the silhouette of the pink tail on the strap keeper and the Pikachu image etched on the case back. The hour and minute hands also evoke the face of Pikachu, a playful touch that will delight the wearer whenever they check the time.

This unique model comes in special packaging inspired by the iconic Poké Ball, adding to the unique experience of owning this Pikachu-themed watch.

The global launch of the Pokémon x BABY-G BA-110PKC will be on the end of February or early March 2021.

PORTER x G-SHOCK GM-5600

0

G-SHOCK introduces an all-new collaboration model with PORTER, a Japanese bag brand, to commemorate the 85th anniversary of fashion company Yoshida & Co. Based on the quintessential G-SHOCK GM-5600, the collaboration model comes with 2 types of bands featuring the PORTER logo – a fabric band made of materials featured extensively in Yoshida & Co. products, and a standard black resin band.

ABOUT YOSHIDA & CO.
Yoshida & Co. owns the brands PORTER and LUGGAGE LABEL. While many manufacturers
abandon Japan and establish production facilities overseas, Yoshida & Co. has been an advocate of maintaining domestic production. Its philosophy and Japan-oriented products helped it gain a high level of popularity over the years.

The case back is highlighted with an orange accent, the signature colour of the PORTER brand bags. On the back of the case, the established year of Yoshida & Co. and the PORTER logo are engraved to emphasize their 85 years of establishment. The PORTER logo will also appear when the EL backlight is lit. Finally, the matte, metal bezel and case with a hairline finish give the watch a military look.

In terms of functions, the watch is equipped with a multi-function alarm with buzzer sound,
stopwatch and countdown timer.

The global launch of the PORTER x G-SHOCK GM-5600 collaboration watch will be from 27 January 2021.

Reko Rennie Custom Basketball Court

0

Tentative this weekend, Jan 30th 2021, a newly freshly painted basketball court will be unveiled in a Melbourne Location known as “The Underpark“. The visuals portrayed on the court and surroundings are done none other than the street artist Reko Rennie.

Rennie is a recognised interdisiplinary artist who’s visual language is in the form of elemental shapes and graffitti. using distinct imagery that relates to his indigenous Kamilaroi Heritage and culture.

Rennie has been commissioned to create visuals on ‘The Underpark’ outdoor basketball court to excite and bring the crowds from in and out of the city for some hoops.

But unfortunately the head turning artwork will only be active for a limited time only. So head in, take some photos, shoot some buckets and enjoy it while it still lasts.

ASICS x IAB Studio GEL-1090™

0

ASICS and IAB Studio are teaming up once again, officially introducing their second collaboration project on the GEL-1090™ silhouette. The ‘GEL-1090 AI-2’ draws inspiration from the ASICS’s best selling shoes of the SportStyle category.

The new collaboration draws unique sensibility of IAB Studio with a colour composition, emphasizing dramatic conflicts with the concept of competitive composition, fighting with oneself, and sport spirit. Much like the duo’s first collaboration that released in Spring/Summer 2020, the design crew sincerely captures the weight of the project by not only developing a concept of the product, but also creating the key object for the key visual.

The four-legged sculpture wears two different shoes from ‘AI-2 collection’. The awkwardness itself clearly represents the point what IAB Studio aim through the collection, while it seems to be a bit awkward to see the sculpture wearing shoes and clothes, not a human being. Imagining the future time of when AI-2 approaches evenly to all, we created an abstract sculpture, given a role of a model, not to feature ‘anybody’.

The feet created for a global image are only ghostly and smooth, while creating a rough atmosphere, as if those are the parts of a sculpture from the future. This helps observers imagine the different time zone of the sculpture while assigning a future time to the shoe at
the same time.

Seoul-based IAB Studio is the art crew founded by Korean hip-hop artist Beenzino. From cover art for famous K-pop musicians to remarkable collaborations with brands and cooperation, IAB Studio came across as a smash hit among young and consumers.

The ASICS x IAB Studio GEL-1090™ will be available in Black/Lime and Lime/Black colourways and are made in limited quantities, the second collaboration of ASICS and IAB Studio is slated to drop on selected retailers around the world on the 15th of January. Now available at Up There and Sneakerboy

Performance Review: Curry 8 by Under Armour

0

The Curry Brand has officially launched under the banner of Under Armour. And boy, they’re already making a splash (pun intended) pushing forward the boundaries of performance basketball kicks.

We spent a full week test driving the Curry 8 in the ‘Golden Flow’ colorway in indoor and outdoor court environments.

Check out how the Curry 8 stacks up!

FIT: 4/5

Majority of the uppers is made-up of a one-piece breathable engineered knit. It’s further reinforced by a synthetic piece of leather found on both the lateral and medial side of the kicks. Initially the fit felt long and narrow, specially around the toe box. But after a few minutes of wear, the fabric seems to have stretched over and conformed to the shape of our foot. A TPU heel counter, speed laces and a collar foam seems to be the main lockdown component. Knit uppers though, tend to stretch with overtime usage. At this point we’re not quite sure how long they will hold. During the test though, we felt no foot slippages or immediate concerns for ankle rolls. We strongly suggest going true to your size or going half to a full size-up if you have wide feet.

CUSHIONING: 5/5

One of the two shining elements of the Curry 8 is the UA FLOW Cushioning system. Much like the uppers, the sole set-up of the kicks is a single unisole foam. There are no mid or outsoles to be found here. The FLOW foam has been biometrically designed with the athlete’s foot in mind. And despite the new biometric design approach, we found it to be very stable with an immense court feel at the forefoot. The cushioning and bounce back is next level. Very responsive during landings and heel strikes. We felt little to no foot fatigues or joint pains during our two hour run with the Curry 8.

TRACTION: 5/5

The traction is amazing. The bite and grip of the UA FLOW Cushioning is next level. Since the traction runs all the way up to the mid part of the sole, push-offs and hesitation moves are a dream to pull-off. For all types of surfaces, we never once experienced slipping during stop and go situations. The ‘soft’ but durable traction seems to adapt to any kind of court surfaces. The only caveat we can think of since the traction is foam based, is how long they will last outdoors. We did notice some minor heel drags when we tried them on blacktop surfaces. Only time will tell how durable they really are.

LOOKS: 4/5

If you are into that whole minimalistic vibe, then these are definitely the kicks for you! Under Armour has pretty much done away with all the unnecessary aesthetic gimmicks found in most of today’s ball kicks and just gave us an absolute performance sneaker. When we first took them out of the box, we felt like they resembled modern day lifestyle runners. The kicks is also adorned with choc full of details about Steph Curry‘s life and journey to the NBA. But most noticeable is the new SC30 logo. We found it pretty dope, as it incorporates the ‘3’ hand sign when he makes a three-point shot, the number ’30’ and his initials ‘SC.’

OVERALL: 4.5/5

Coming in at $220 for men’s size, out of the box we found the UA CURRY 8 to be extremely light, not just for a basketball kicks but for a sneaker overall period. They come in at 12.1 oz in a men’s size 9. There were times during play we completely forgot we were wearing a sneaker. The breathable uppers efficiently wicks away the sweat and kept our feet cool all throughout the day. The addition of a foot plate is very much welcomed, as it provided more support and energy return with each of our stride. The cushioning and traction are the two main elements here that deserves heaps of praise. It took Under Armour 3 years to develop the FLOW FOAM and yes they delivered and more. We’re very excited where the legacy Curry Brand is headed and how Under Armour is going to further utilize and develop its FLOW FOAM.

Now available in preschool, grade school and Men’s sizing at Foot Locker Australia.

The Kickz Stand’s Hit List #32

“Life is too short buy the damn shoes.”

Specially when you catch the ‘W‘ on the raffles. In my opinion this pair was a cracker release (pun intended) even with all the negativity surrounding it. The make and quality is top-notch. But hey kicks are meant to be worn, so wear them and don’t waste them. This pair easily made my top 10 picks ups of 2020.

Fam 2020 was stressful for most of us but just remember:

“Count your blessings not your problems.”

Just keep it moving onwards and upwards coming into 2021.

Goodvibes and blessings to all of yous TKS fam.”
